A nonprofit organization dedicated to supportive housing and social services is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist (Master’s Degree Required) to join an innovative, trauma-informed mobile treatment team serving individuals facing homelessness, mental health conditions, and co-occurring substance use disorders across NYC.
What You'll Do:
- Screen, assess, and develop person-centered treatment plans for participants and their support networks
- Deliver individualized therapeutic services using cognitive behavioral, stage-wise, and harm reduction approaches
- Serve as a clinical resource to a multidisciplinary team on behavioral health and substance use matters
- Advocate for participants within criminal justice, shelter, and housing systems
- Support participants with housing applications, vocational training, and life skills development
- Use motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care to guide recovery-focused interventions
- Collaborate with shelters, jails, hospitals, and community partners on discharge planning and continuity of care
- Provide rotating 24-hour crisis intervention coverage
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation of all participant contacts
- Travel throughout NYC boroughs via public transportation to meet participants where they are
What You'll Bring:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or a related Health/Human Services field
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with individuals with mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders
- Strong skills in conflict mediation, crisis response, and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Proficiency with MS Office and willingness to learn new electronic systems
- Bilingual Spanish-speaking a plus
