The Oklahoma Water Resources Board is a state agency responsible for overseeing the complex mission of managing, monitoring, planning for and financing the state's water resources and infrastructure towards reliable future supplies that support strong communities, commerce, and the environment. The agency is seeking a full-time Accountant to join our family of professionals in delivering exceptional services and expertise to Oklahomans.

Location of Work: 3800 Classen Boulevard; Oklahoma City, OK 73118

Trial Period: 12 months in accordance with (OAC) 260:130-19-30

Travel: Training and conference attendance may be required, occasionally involving extended days or overnight stays.

Basic Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to ensure accurate, efficient, and compliant financial operations for the agency. We are looking for an accountant who can handle a wide range of financial and administrative tasks. Responsibilities include managing daily financial transactions, handling unclaimed funds and billing to secure agency revenues, as well as assisting with acquiring goods and services. The incumbent will also provide guidance on departmental rules and regulations to internal and external stakeholders and perform routine accounting and administrative duties to support operational efficiency and compliance.

Typical Job Functions:

• Manages daily deposits, records accounting entries for collected funds, and maintains accurate financial records to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

• Reviews unclaimed deposit lists from the State Treasury, verifies account draws, and ensures recovered funds are deposited and recorded to secure agency revenues.

• Assists with requisitions, purchase orders, and tracking change orders to support facility operations.

• Performs administrative duties, prepares reports, and supports operational efficiency and compliance.

• Other assigned duties.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and theories; of financial statements and reports; of accounting ledgers and journals; of computer technology related to accounting systems; of payroll systems; of budget preparation; and of governmental accounting standards. Ability is required to prepare basic financial statements and reports; to review and analyze financial information; to maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals; to review revenue and cost data for the preparation of budget work programs; to perform highly independent work; to make independent decisions; and to resolve complex accounting and financial problems.

Education and Experience:

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a bachelor’s degree in business, finance or a closely related field plus three years of experience in performing professional accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of bookkeeping for each year of the required degree.
