This full‑time role involves independent judgement in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes and procedures, following Virginia licensure regulations and the written Scope of Practice and Protocol. The APP exercises clinical practices, quality improvement initiatives, cost‑effective care delivery, and works under physician supervision to provide primary and secondary specialty care in clinical and surgical settings. Job Responsibilities Practice in accordance with safe and effective standards of care and ensure compliance with professional and ethical standards of practice. Communicate appropriately with physicians, peers, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers. Develop differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revise based on physiologic and psychosocial findings. Interpret and synthesize laboratory, imaging, and other pertinent data. Review patient plan of care with interdisciplinary team, patient, and family. Evaluate and document patients' responses to care and impact of illness on health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns, family and social relationships; establish a health promotion strategy. Assume clinical management for the acute care patient population in collaboration with physicians. Provide accurate record keeping: complete and pertinent history and physicals, pre‑operative progress notes, discharge summaries, and data information sheets. Serve as a role model and preceptor for new Advanced Practice Providers and students. Assist physicians in care management of patients during emergencies. Participate in and support departmental, hospital, and system‑wide quality performance improvement initiatives. Support departmental cost savings strategies and provide care in an efficient and cost‑conscious manner. Assist in development and revision of standards for patient populations and integrate evidence‑based research findings into clinical practice. Participate in clinical research/data collection and assist in projects and planning for continual development of the specialty. Provide clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge. Proactively assist peers with work tasks. May perform additional duties as assigned. Additional Requirements Certification: Basic Life Support upon start; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (for Pediatrics) upon start. Licensure: Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. For NPs: RN Compact License (depending on state of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as an NP or PA in Virginia AND a signed "Practice Agreement" by supervising physician(s), and a signed written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" by supervising physician. Also a DEA license if prescribing controlled substances. Experience: No prior experience required; new graduates considered. Education: For NPs: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Master’s Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post‑masters certificate program for NPs, OR a certificate from an accredited program.
