Job Title Staff Editor, EW Job Summary EW Staff Editors coordinate breaking news content and other features. The role supports Entertainment Weekly’s East Coast news operation by identifying breaking stories, guiding coverage decisions, and ensuring timely, high‑quality execution. Staff Editors collaborate with writers and Senior Editors to develop story ideas, pitch unique angles, negotiate exclusives, and cultivate relationships with publicists and outside sources. The position requires a team player with excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, and a passion for entertainment and pop culture. Occasional off‑hours and weekend work may be required. Essential Job Functions 80% – Edit breaking entertainment news stories and other features. 20% – Report and write access stories and news, and perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements Education – Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Experience – 2–5 years of experience, including at least 1 year in an editing role. Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills. Strong knowledge of entertainment, pop culture, and the EW brand. Creative idea generation for fresh story concepts. Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment. Experience with SEO, social media, content management systems, analytics tools, and Photoshop. Travel Not anticipated, but may be assigned.
