Electrical General Foreman Location: Lubbock, TX Type: Full Time General Information / Job Summary The General Foreman coordinates and directs the activities of multiple Foremen on a project or may coordinate and direct the activities of craft personnel directly. The role ensures construction and maintenance tasks are completed in a timely, safe, and cost‑efficient manner. The General Foreman works under the direction of a Job Site Superintendent or directly under the direction of a Project Manager. The General Foreman typically works under the direction of the Superintendent but may serve as the lead representative for the company at a construction site, directing and coordinating the activities of the various trade groups such as Carpenters, Equipment Operators, Pipefitters, Welders, Electricians, Instrument Craftsmen, etc. In this capacity, the General Foreman’s role is like that of the Superintendent, providing overall management oversight for all phases of the construction project, including coordinating workers, material, and equipment and ensuring that specifications are being followed. Responsibilities include ensuring that work progresses according to schedule, that material and equipment are delivered to the site on time, and that the activities of the various workers do not interfere with one another. The General Foreman confers with supervisory and engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and to improve construction methods, inspects work in progress to ensure compliance with specifications and construction schedules, and prepares or receives reports from subordinates on progress, materials, equipment used, and costs, adjusting work schedules as indicated by these reports. Responsibilities / Competencies Must have a broad working knowledge of their assigned craft (carpentry, pipefitting, equipment operation/rigging, instrument/electrical, welding) with the same basic aptitude and interests as those working in the craft they supervise. Must demonstrate an above‑average knowledge of all facets of their trade and have extensive personal experience performing in the trade. Must possess knowledge of safety procedures and have good interpersonal and communication skills. Responsible for promoting safety awareness and for enforcing safety policies. May be held accountable for Job Site Safety. Develops effective work plans, gives assignments/instructions to foremen and/or work crews, and supervises their work activity. Must possess the ability to motivate subordinates under their supervision to complete assigned tasks safely, skillfully, and efficiently, and within the project schedule. Must be able to read and visualize objects from blueprints and have an eye for precise detail. Communicates with Superintendent/Project Manager to keep them informed on progress of work assignments and any new problems. Must be able to deal effectively with employees and various levels of customer representatives to resolve scheduling problems, determine work priorities, and assess the relative magnitude of project requirements as they impact project scheduling. Estimates labor, materials, and equipment needed to complete work assignments. Inspects and tests or supervises inspection/testing of completed work assignments of crew, checking for compliance with project drawings, specifications, and quality control procedures. May be held overall responsibility for quality control/quality assurance. Prepares daily progress reports and maintains records and files. Maintains inventory of material associated with assigned work. Recommends promotion/demotion of subordinates and identifies training needs. Has authority to discipline, including termination when warranted. Discipline and terminations are discussed with Management prior to acting. Requires working in operating facilities and complying with all additional safety policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Four years of experience in work involving a variety of installations of conduit, cable tray, electrical buildings with gear 120‑25 kV, and cable pulls/terminations for instrumentation, 600 V to 25 kV. Must be able to report progress that the foreman/leadman reported for the day and plan the next week’s required materials. Must also be able to coordinate with other crafts on simultaneous activities. Three years minimum of experience as an Industrial Electrical Foreman with one year of experience as a General Foreman. OSHA 30 certification. Must pass a drug test as mandated by Saulsbury Industries and Department of Transportation anti‑drug program. Must attend and successfully complete Saulsbury Industries safety training education. Attends safety meetings and specialty training as directed by management. Attends various training classes as may be assigned by management. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required. Take needed safety precautions in performing the work. Physical Requirements Manual and finger dexterity. Eye‑hand coordination. Depth perception. Ability to see things clearly that are beyond arm’s reach (far visual acuity). Ability to see small detail. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb 30‑foot ladders without resting. Ability to maintain balance on catwalks and narrow workspaces. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to reach above head while sitting or standing. Ability to reach below knees while standing. Ability to stoop or kneel. Ability to work 60 or more hours each week. Ability to work at heights a minimum of 20 ft. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Work Environment Employees must be able to perform under the following conditions: awkward or confining workspaces, high places, outdoor environment, noisy environment, dirty environment, air contamination (dust, fumes, etc.), near or below freezing temperatures.
