The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a compassionate, professional, and service-minded Pet Help Assistant to serve as a trusted resource for pet owners seeking guidance, support, and services for their pets.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys helping others, building relationships, and making a meaningful difference in their community. In this role, you will work directly with pet owners navigating a variety of situations, including lost pets, animal intake services, community veterinary care, pet aftercare arrangements, and end-of-life services. Every day brings new conversations, new challenges, and opportunities to support both animals and the people who care for them.

Success in this role requires a balance of compassion, professionalism, and emotional resilience. Some interactions are joyful, such as helping reunite a lost pet with its family. Others require patience, empathy, and the ability to support individuals facing difficult decisions about their pets. Through each interaction, you will help ensure every person feels heard, respected, and supported while receiving exceptional service from the ARL.

As a Pet Help Assistant, you will serve as one of the primary points of contact for individuals seeking assistance from the ARL. You will welcome visitors, answer questions, coordinate services, maintain accurate records, process payments, and work closely with veterinary, shelter, and animal care teams to create a positive experience for both pets and their owners. The role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, remains calm under pressure, and can navigate sensitive conversations with confidence and empathy. Candidates with experience in customer service, healthcare, veterinary medicine, hospitality, social services, funeral services, or other client-facing environments often find this role especially rewarding. Strong computer skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to providing exceptional service are essential.
