Medical Assistant, Primary Care - Full-Time, Days

Medical AssistantBe a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Medical Assistant with our Primary Care team at our South Loop clinic. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.Our South Loop location offers care in a vibrant neighborhood near downtown Chicago. Our patients have access to comprehensive adult and pediatric primary care and specialty care, all in one location. Our world-class team provide medical exams, immunizations, treatment for injuries and chronic illness management.The Medical Assistant will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), or Physician, assisting with a range of clinical and administrative tasks such as administering vaccines, conducting EKGs, recording vital signs, maintaining accurate patient records, and collaborating with the healthcare team to enhance patient care.Essential Job Functions:Know and practice the University of Chicago Medical Center's Pride Values and Patient Centered Care Definition and Principles.Perform any or all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the registered nurse or physician and within the scope of the Nursing policies and procedures.Appropriately implement and document patient and family education as delegated by the RN or physician.Obtain and record vital signs.Perform tests, i.e. pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and hemocults, etc., specific to the patient population.Document all aspects of patient care according to hospital policies and procedures.Perform phlebotomy services.Assist with collection of specimens. Perform labeling and logging of specimens in compliance with hospital standards.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:A completed High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited bodyA current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation trainingMust have phlebotomy experienceExperience working in a community health settingCompletion of a certified/registered program for medical assistants that is recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red CrossGraduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants (CMA credential)Preferred Qualifications:Considerable skill in communicating verbally, in determining priorities and in organizing work; ability to maintain an organized, alphabetized filing systemGeneral working knowledge of PC. Excel, Microsoft Word for windows, OASIS and EPICComputerized appointment scheduling experienceAbility to handle stress in a fast-paced environmentConsiderable skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion, tact and courtesy when dealing with patients, coworkers, and physiciansPhysical ability to perform stocking, lifting, and transporting supplies and instrumentsPosition Details:Job Type/FTE: Full Time (1.0 FTE)Shift: Days – 10-hour shifts, 7:30 am - 6 pmWork Location: Onsite - South LoopUnit/Department: Primary CareCBA Code: Non-Union
