Bus Aide

Special Transportation Support WorkerPerform responsible human support work assisting with the transportation of pupils with special transportation needs to and from school, providing help to the school bus driver; securing passengers in their seats; assisting students boarding and leaving the school bus.Essential Duties and Responsibilities(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)Assist students on and off busesEnsure that all student passengers, including those in wheelchairs and braces, are properly secured in their assigned seats or wheelchair slotAssist in controlling student behaviorTend to the special needs and conditions of each studentLearn bus routes, schedules, and pick up pointsAssist substitute drivers with directionsKeep abreast of route and bus stop changesAssist drivers in conducting bus evacuation drillsAssist drivers in maintaining a clean bus interiorQualificationsEducation/ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalentPass background checkCertificates, Licenses, RegistrationsNoneSkills and Abilities General knowledge of the transportation of studentsSome knowledge of transporting handicapped studentsAbility to assist students with patience and understandingAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents, associates and studentsHas the necessary skills and knowledge to properly use the first aid and body fluid kits, as well as fire extinguisherAdhere to safety practicesPhysical DemandsSome standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Must have the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.AttendanceConsistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.Conditions and EnvironmentThis job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in hazardous conditions.
