The Service Line Medical Director (SLMD) serves as the primary leader responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and performance of an assigned behavioral health service line.

\n

In this role, you will provide strategic direction for Rogers Behavioral Healths medical policies, programs, and clinical standards within the service line. You will help ensure that every patient receives consistently high-quality care, regardless of which provider delivers their treatment.

\n

The SLMD also plays an essential role in keeping clinical providers informed, aligned, and supported. You will collaborate closely with campus medical directors, the Associate Chief Medical Officer, the Chief Medical Officer, and other senior leaders to develop, monitor, and advance both short-term initiatives and long-term organizational goals.

\n

In addition to your administrative and leadership responsibilities, you will continue practicing as a Clinical Psychiatrist . Clinical responsibilities include providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, accurate diagnoses, and effective treatment plans for a wide range of mental health conditions. Treatment may include psychotherapy, medication management, and other evidence-based therapeutic approaches.

Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership\n

\n
• Ensure the quality and long-term sustainability of medical and clinical services.
\n
• Promote a team-based approach to care, including interprofessional collaboration, provider resilience, and innovation throughout the organization.
\n
• Provide oversight and guidance to the service lines clinical teams.
\n
• Collaborate with medical directors and operational leadership at all levels to establish and maintain standards of care.
\n
• Supervise, advise, counsel, and discipline medical providers in partnership with the appropriate administrative teams.
\n
• Lead by example by continuing to meet expected productivity schedules, participating in call rotations, and providing patient care as needed.
\n
• Provide timely, situational feedback to providers and serve as an escalation point of contact.
\n
• Identify and support service-line recruitment needs in collaboration with the administrative team.
\n
• Promote and communicate organizational goals and the mission of the hospital.
\n
• Assist with continuing education, on-the-job training, and staff orientation as requested.
\n
• Ensure all duties, responsibilities, and operations are performed with the highest regard for the health and safety of patients, employees, and other personnel.
\n
• Follow all required federal, state, Rogers Behavioral Health, and other applicable protective protocols, policies, and guidelines.
\n

Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement\n

\n
• Maintain and continually improve the quality of patient care.
\n
• Monitor the patient experience and patient flow, making adjustments as needed.
\n
• Develop, maintain, update, and implement departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
\n
• Analyze performance data and develop plans to improve clinical and operational efficiency.
\n
• Establish quality assurance programs.
\n
• Partner with providers, medical directors, infection control, nursing, and other departments as needed regarding infection control and safety protocols.
\n
• Conduct regular audits.
\n
• Lead and implement performance improvement action plans.
\n

Regulatory Compliance\n

\n
• Demonstrate an understanding of Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agency requirements.
\n
• Monitor regulatory matters and ensure ongoing compliance.
\n
• Educate and direct clinical teams in accordance with regulatory requirements.
\n
• Collaborate with Risk and Compliance, Legal, Human Resources, and Practice Administration to ensure Medical Staff awareness of and compliance with Rogers Behavioral Health, Joint Commission, and all other applicable regulatory requirements.
\n
• Prepare for and participate in accreditation and certification surveys.
\n
• Lead and participate in in-services, seminars, and other meetings designed to increase awareness and understanding of regulatory requirements.
\n

Administrative Responsibilities\n

\n
• Participate in budget development, including staffing plans, support needs, and equipment projections, with ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
\n
• Ensure providers meet average daily census, or ADC, targets in accordance with the hospitals budgeting process.
\n
• Manage full-time equivalent, or FTE, expenditures in accordance with the approved FTE budget.
\n
• Manage the on-call schedule to support a consistent, high-quality approach to patient care needs.
\n
• Maintain an understanding of physician productivity variances and their impact on the budget.
\n
• Participate in committees, performance improvement meetings, and team projects.
\n

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve conflict are required.
\n
• Must demonstrate the initiative and judgment necessary to organize and plan activities, formulate policies, delegate responsibilities, and make decisions affecting patient diagnoses and treatment.

• Must be able to relate to others in a manner that establishes trust, confidence, and rapport.

• Must be flexible and able to adjust to changing conditions, programs, and position responsibilities.

• Verbal communication and hearing abilities are required to interact effectively with patients and employees.
\n
• Numerical ability is required to maintain records and operate a computer.

• Must be able to read and communicate effectively through written, verbal, and auditory methods.

• The position requires walking, sitting, and standing.
\n
• Work is performed indoors and is considered physically light.
\n
• Moderate lifting is required, with the ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
\n
• Reaching, handling, grasping, and manual dexterity are necessary to operate office equipment.
\n
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential job duties, as verified through a pre-employment physical examination conducted by a licensed physician.

Education and Training Requirements\n

\n
• Valid state licensure as an MD or DO.
\n
• Board-eligible in Psychiatry.
\n
• Board certification in Psychiatry is preferred.
\n
• Leadership and/or supervisory experience within a behavioral health organization is preferred.
\n
• Experience implementing process improvement initiatives is preferred.
\n
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer certification is required within 30 days of hire. Annual recertification is required.
\n
• Formal self-defense training is required within 60 days of hire or transfer. Annual recertification is required.
\n
