Bus Monitor

Bus MonitorThe purpose of the Bus Monitor is to assist students while they are being transported to and from school; and to provide a consistent environment, discipline and guidance for the students while they are on the bus.Reports To: Director of TransportationMajor Responsibilities:Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.Monitor student behavior for the purpose of diffusing situations and/or preventing distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers.Develop positive relationships with students, school staff, and parents.Be vigilant and alert to student activity while on the bus as well as at the bus stop.Report observations and incidents (e.g., discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to the School Safety and Transportation departments.Report any actions taken by students to initiate a confrontation, disruption or disturbance.Communicate and remind students of bus safety requirements, school rules and provide general behavioral guidance to students while on the bus.Respond to and report emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns.Work as a team with the bus driver to create and achieve positive behavior standards on the bus.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.Split shift availability necessaryGood verbal communication skillsAbility to exercise tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with students, faculty and parents.Knowledge and understanding of childrenProblem solving skillsAbility to properly analyze situations and adopt effective course(s) of actionPossess maturity and ability to understand appropriate interactions with othersAbility to meet the physical requirements of the jobPERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: the period of employment is the school term or nine and one-half (9.5) months annually.This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position.
