Job Description

The Production Supervisor oversees day-to-day operations on 1st and 2nd shift in a hands-on capacity within a machine shop environment. This role leads a team of approximately 20–30 production employees, supports training and development, and drives process improvements while actively participating in machine operations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily production activities on assigned shift to ensure safety, quality, and productivity targets are met.
• Lead and oversee a team of approximately 20–30 production employees, providing clear direction, support, and feedback.
• Work as a hands-on supervisor, actively operating machinery and assisting team members on the floor as needed.
• Train new employees on production processes, machine operation, safety procedures, and quality standards.
• Monitor production workflows and identify opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
• Coordinate work assignments and staffing to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
• Oversee and support machine operations, including CNC machinery, wire stripping, wire cutting, welding cells, and plating lines.
• Ensure products meet quality specifications through regular inspection and adherence to standards.
• Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment and encourage open communication across the production team.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company policies and industry best practices.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience as a Production Supervisor or high-level Production Lead.
• Experience overseeing teams of approximately 15–30 employees in a production or manufacturing setting.
• Hands-on experience with machine operating in a manufacturing environment.
• Famaliarity in environments with CNC machinery, wire stripping, wire cutting, welding cells, or plating lines.
• Strong supervision and team leadership skills, including the ability to direct, coach, and motivate employees.
• Ability to train new employees on production processes and safety practices.
• Experience with production, inspection, and general labor activities.
• Ability to work 1st and/or 2nd shift, including a 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. schedule as needed.

• Experience in a family-owned or less formally structured production environment.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse production teams.
• Solid organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities on the production floor.

Work Environment

This role is based in a machine shop environment that utilizes CNC machinery, wire stripping and wire cutting equipment, welding cells, and plating lines. The position involves working on 1st and 2nd shifts, with a key schedule of 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The setting is hands-on and production-focused, with active floor presence required. The workplace is family-owned and less rigidly structured, offering a more flexible and close-knit atmosphere while maintaining a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and productivity. Appropriate industrial attire suitable for a machine shop environment is expected.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grayslake, IL.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
