Job Title: Shipping Associate Job Description

The Shipping Associate works in a warehouse environment to process orders and handle boxes of files, books, binders, backup tapes, and other materials. This role is highly physical and involves lifting, carrying, and moving boxes, operating pallet jacks and hand trucks, and using computer systems and handheld scanners to track and locate inventory. You contribute directly to efficient storage and information management by accurately processing orders and maintaining organized warehouse locations.

Responsibilities

• Process incoming and outgoing orders in a warehouse environment, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

• Manually lift, carry, move, and arrange boxes ranging from approximately 10 to 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.

• Stand, bend, kneel, stoop, crawl, and twist for extended periods while handling and organizing materials.

• Load, operate, and safely maneuver manual and electric pallet jacks and hand trucks to transport materials throughout the facility.

• Use a proprietary computer system to enter data, track orders, and determine the location of boxes and other stored materials.

• Operate handheld RF scanners to scan, locate, and verify inventory and order information.

• Read and interpret location labels to ensure boxes and materials are stored and retrieved from correct areas.

• Pull, stack, and organize boxes and other items in designated warehouse locations, maintaining clear aisles and orderly rows.

• Follow established processes and procedures for shipping, receiving, and inventory handling to maintain accuracy and efficiency.

• Use step ladders safely to access materials stored at different heights and levels within the warehouse.

• Maintain a clean and safe work area, adhering to safety guidelines and using provided PPE and protective equipment.

• Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, to follow instructions and document work as needed.

Essential Skills

• Ability to consistently lift and carry boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, stoop, crawl, and twist for long periods while performing physical tasks.

• Ability to use a computer for data entry and to navigate a proprietary order tracking system.

• Ability to read location labels and follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

• Ability to use step ladders safely to access materials at various heights.

• Prior experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.

• Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly and effectively.

• Experience loading and safely operating manual and/or electric pallet jacks.

• Ability to load and operate hand trucks for transporting materials.

• Capability to work in a very physical role handling boxes and materials throughout the shift.

• Self-motivated work style with the ability to stay productive and focused with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Shrink wrap experience for securing pallets and materials.

• Experience operating pallet jacks, including electric and manual models.

• Experience using RF scanners for inventory tracking and order processing.

• High school diploma or equivalent education.

• Military experience, which may contribute to strong discipline, reliability, and attention to detail.

• Familiarity with warehouse processes such as pulling, stacking, and organizing boxes and materials.

Work Environment

This role is based in a warehouse setting on a 1st shift schedule, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The shift includes two paid 15-minute breaks and one unpaid 30-minute lunch break. You work among numerous cardboard boxes filled with paperwork and other materials, and some areas of the warehouse may be dusty. The facility is described as a nice, clean environment with multiple levels and long dark rows that light up as you move through them. The atmosphere is generally quiet, and employees may be able to listen to music through a speaker while working, contributing to a calm and focused workday.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Addison, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
