PUMP EQUIPMENT MECHANIC (2610)

Overview EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL TWO (2) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES IN THE WATER DEPARTMENT. This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur. Responsibilities The purpose of this position is to perform semi‑skilled and skilled work involving the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of equipment such as pumps, electric motors, blowers, humidifiers, variable speed drives, compressors, and electronic/electrical controls. Employees will inspect, maintain, and repair the mechanical equipment at the Water Treatment Plant, performing preventative maintenance duties including repacking pumps, rebuilding chlorine regulators, checking valves, maintaining pit levels, servicing pumps, greasing valves, inspecting for leaks, and removing debris from waste pits. The employee will be required to drive to various locations throughout Jefferson Parish and is an essential, emergency duty status worker who may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President recommends evacuation. Position requires driving a Parish vehicle; possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record will be given preference. Qualifications Current, permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish Experience assigned to a Pump Equipment Mechanic and certification by the appointing authority of demonstrated journeyman‑level capability OR Six months of verifiable, satisfactory, full‑time, paid, journeyman‑level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various types of pumps and electric motors, including independently troubleshooting mechanical failures Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record Preferred : Possession of a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate but not to exceed the listed salary range. (ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL) Examination The examination will consist of a written test, weighted 100%. It is designed to measure knowledge of and ability to perform maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, and related equipment.
