Aluminum TIG Welder
Pay Range: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour (Actual pay offered will be based on experience, skill level, and qualifications.)
Position Summary: Sea Fox Boats is seeking an experienced Aluminum TIG Welder to join our production team. This position is responsible for TIG welding aluminum components and assemblies used in the construction of Sea Fox boats while ensuring strong, clean, accurate, and consistent welds that meet production and quality standards. The ideal candidate has marine manufacturing experience, strong TIG welding skills, excellent attention to detail, and takes pride in producing high-quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform TIG welding on aluminum components and assemblies according to production specifications.
- Weld aluminum structures, brackets, supports, frames, and other marine components as assigned.
- Set up and operate TIG welding equipment using appropriate settings for aluminum thickness, material, and application.
- Prepare aluminum surfaces and components for welding, including cleaning, fitting, positioning, and securing materials.
- Read and interpret welding diagrams, drawings, work instructions, and production specifications.
- Accurately fit, align, tack, and weld components to required dimensions and specifications.
- Produce clean, consistent, structurally sound welds with proper penetration and appearance.
- Inspect completed welds for quality, consistency, penetration, cracks, porosity, undercut, and other defects.
- Identify and correct welding defects or inconsistencies before components move to the next stage of production.
- Grind, clean, finish, or rework welds as required to meet production and quality standards.
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in safe and proper working condition.
- Safely operate TIG welding machines, grinders, cutting equipment, hand tools, and other fabrication equipment.
- Follow established welding procedures, production standards, and safety requirements.
- Communicate material shortages, quality concerns, equipment issues, or production problems to leadership.
- Work collaboratively with other production team members to maintain workflow and meet production goals.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience in marine manufacturing, boat building, aluminum fabrication, or a similar marine production environment is required.
- Previous experience with aluminum TIG welding is required.
- Strong understanding of TIG welding processes, aluminum materials, and welding techniques.
- Ability to set up and adjust TIG welding equipment for different aluminum materials and thicknesses.
- Ability to read and follow welding drawings, diagrams, work instructions, and production specifications.
- Ability to accurately measure, fit, align, tack, and weld components according to specifications.
- Strong understanding of weld quality, penetration, heat control, and proper welding technique.
- Ability to identify common welding defects and make appropriate corrections.
- Experience safely using grinders, cutting tools, hand tools, and welding equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a production team.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot welding and fabrication issues.
- Dependable attendance and ability to meet production schedules.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a marine manufacturing environment with exposure to welding fumes, heat, sparks, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Must be comfortable working inside and around boats during various stages of production.
- Ability to work in awkward positions and confined areas when required.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, and wrist movements required for welding and fabrication tasks.
- Must have the ability to wear required welding PPE for extended periods.
- Must follow all required safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
