Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of the Office Chief, a Supervisor II, the Branch Chief leads the team responsible for Caltrans' Reasonable Accommodation (RA) and FMLA/CFRA programs. The Branch Chief manages technical staff, oversees day-to-day program operations, and supports the accurate, consistent, and timely handling of cases. The Branch Chief provides guidance to employees and managers, helps resolve complex issues, interprets applicable laws and policies, and works with other Caltrans programs and control agencies to support Caltrans' legal and operational responsibilities. The Branch Chief is expected to build a positive, collaborative team environment and support the Division's mission, goals, and commitment to quality service.

Working Conditions

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
This position is eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’ current telework policy. While Caltrans supports telework, in-person attendance may be required based operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate may be required to conduct business travel on behalf of the Department or commute to the headquarted location. Business travel reimbursements considers an employee's designated Headquarters location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations and applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquarted location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
When working in the office, the incumbent will generally work in a climate-controlled environment with artificial lighting and in a cubicle. The position will periodically require attendance at meetings and training sessions which may require travel and could involve exposure to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and extreme heat or cold.
