Business Analyst
Transit Technologies
Job Description
Business Analyst – K–12 Operations
\nTurn Complex Business Needs Into Technology That Moves Students Forward
\nAbout Transit Technologies
\nTransit Technologies serves as the parent company to a diverse network of transportation products and services that, together, cover the entire lifecycle of a vehicle using best-in-class software. An industry leader in the making, Transit Technologies is on a path to becoming a one-stop shop for transit solutions; a full end-to-end provider of revolutionized mobility services.
\nTransit Technologies is building the future of transportation technology.
\nAs the parent company of a growing portfolio of transportation software and technology-enabled services, we help organizations deliver safer, more efficient, and more connected transportation. Our solutions support everything from fixed-route and paratransit operations to student transportation, fleet management, payments, and mobility services.
\nWe're growing quickly, investing in our products, and bringing together talented people who want to solve meaningful problems through technology.
\nAbout the Opportunity
\nWe're looking for a Senior Business Analyst to support our K–12 transportation operations and help turn real-world business needs into technology solutions that work.
\nYou'll sit at the intersection of business, product, development, QA, support, and implementation . You'll work directly with stakeholders to understand how the business operates, uncover what needs to improve, and translate those needs into clear requirements and functional specifications that development teams can build against.
\nThis isn't a role where you'll simply document requirements and hand them off. You'll stay involved throughout the development lifecycle — partnering with Engineering and QA, supporting acceptance testing, helping prepare releases, and stepping in when complex product or system issues need deeper analysis.
\nThe ideal candidate is naturally curious, technically minded, highly organized, and comfortable asking questions until they truly understand the problem.
\nThis is a hybrid position requiring two days per week in our Naperville, Illinois office .
\nWhat You'll Do
\nTurn Business Needs Into Clear Solutions
\n- \n
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders through product discussions, workshops, and meetings to understand business needs, challenges, and desired outcomes. \n
- Ask the right questions to uncover the underlying business problem — not just the requested feature. \n
- Translate business requirements into clear, actionable functional specifications. \n
- Use process flows, use cases, workflow diagrams, wireframes, and other artifacts to make complex requirements easy to understand. \n
- Connect business processes, data, and application functionality to create practical solutions. \n
Partner With Development & QA
\n- \n
- Review functional specifications with Development and QA teams and provide clarification throughout implementation. \n
- Work closely with technical teams to make sure requirements are understood and delivered as intended. \n
- Help identify gaps, dependencies, edge cases, and potential risks before they become development or production issues. \n
- Bring a business perspective to technical conversations and a technical perspective to business discussions. \n
Help Deliver High-Quality Releases
\n- \n
- Coordinate and participate in user acceptance testing and validate that product deliverables meet business requirements. \n
- Support release readiness activities and help ensure teams are prepared for upcoming deployments. \n
- Assist with deployment coordination, release checklists, stakeholder communications, and post-release validation. \n
- Partner with Support and Implementation teams when issues require deeper product, process, data, or system analysis. \n
Keep the Product Roadmap Moving
\n- \n
- Help manage and maintain the product backlog, including roadmap features and enhancements. \n
- Coordinate prioritization discussions with the appropriate stakeholders. \n
- Make sure functional specifications and supporting documentation are completed ahead of development releases. \n
- Track multiple initiatives at once and communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and blockers clearly. \n
Become an Expert in Student Transportation
\n- \n
- Build a deep understanding of the business processes, workflows, and challenges within the K–12 student transportation industry. \n
- Learn how transportation teams, schools, families, drivers, and other stakeholders interact with the technology. \n
- Use that knowledge to help shape solutions that are practical, scalable, and valuable to customers. \n
What Makes Someone Successful Here
\nWe're looking for someone who doesn't wait for perfect instructions. You see a problem, dig into it, ask questions, find the facts, and help move the solution forward.
\nYou'll thrive in this role if you:
\n- \n
- Drive Results Relentlessly: Keep work moving, follow through on commitments, and don't let ambiguity become an excuse for inaction. \n
- Own It: Take responsibility for your work from requirements through delivery and speak up quickly when something isn't right. \n
- Think Critically, Act Decisively: Break down complex problems, evaluate tradeoffs, and make thoughtful recommendations. \n
- Communicate With Impact: Explain technical and business concepts clearly to different audiences, from stakeholders to developers and QA. \n
- Are Obsessed With Growth: Stay curious, learn the business, understand the product, and continuously look for ways to improve. \n
- Raise the Standard: Care about the quality of requirements, documentation, testing, and the customer experience. \n
- Are Coachable: Welcome feedback, collaborate openly, and continuously improve how you work. \n
What You'll Bring
\nRequired Qualifications
\n- \n
- 4+ years of experience working as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Product Analyst, or similar role throughout the software development lifecycle. \n
- Experience developing business requirements, functional specifications, process flows, use cases, and related business analysis deliverables. \n
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with stakeholders to understand, analyze, and document business requirements. \n
- Experience partnering closely with software development and QA teams through implementation and testing. \n
- Experience working with distributed or offshore development teams. \n
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. \n
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. \n
- Basic understanding of relational database concepts and how data moves through business applications. \n
- General understanding of web and mobile application functionality. \n
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, organize complex work, and communicate status, risks, and blockers. \n
Preferred Qualifications
\n- \n
- Experience in student transportation, K–12 transportation, logistics, mobility, or transportation technology . \n
- Experience supporting SaaS or enterprise software products. \n
- Experience creating wireframes or other lightweight UX artifacts. \n
- Experience with acceptance testing, release management, or product backlog management. \n
- Technical background or experience working closely with software engineering teams. \n
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline. \n
The Impact You'll Make
\nYour work will directly influence how transportation technology is designed, built, tested, and delivered to K–12 customers.
\n \nYou'll help ensure that:
\n- \n
- Business problems are understood before solutions are built. \n
- Development teams have clear requirements they can act on. \n
- New features work the way customers actually need them to work. \n
- Releases are tested and ready before they reach production. \n
- Support and Implementation teams have the information they need to solve complex issues. \n
- The product roadmap stays organized and connected to real customer and business needs. \n
You'll have a direct hand in improving technology that helps schools and transportation teams plan, manage, and deliver safer and more efficient student transportation .
\nCareer Growth & Development
\nThis role gives you exposure across the full product and software development lifecycle. You'll work with business stakeholders, customers, Product, Engineering, QA, Support, and Implementation — giving you the opportunity to deepen your expertise and grow toward areas such as Product Management, Systems Analysis, Product Operations, or technical leadership .
\nAs Transit Technologies continues to grow, there will be opportunities to take on broader products, more complex initiatives, and greater ownership.
\n \nWork Environment
\nLocation: Naperville, IL / Chicagoland area
\nWork Arrangement: Hybrid — two days per week in the Naperville office
