Psychiatric Nurse Position

Job Description

This is a 13-week contract position for a Psychiatric Nurse working night shifts. The role involves active participation in the formulation of patient care plans, medication education, and clinical staffing meetings. The Psychiatric Nurse will also provide training to other staff, ensure accurate documentation of patient observations, and maintain certification for therapeutic options.

Responsibilities

• Input into the formulation of the patient care plan.
• Attend weekly clinical staffing and review patient treatment plans.
• Direct medication education for patients and families.
• Report and document emotional and mental observations in patient charts.
• Conduct teaching and educational groups as per APU schedule.
• Train LPNs and MHTs in charting, vital signs, and de-escalation techniques.
• Participate in a performance improvement team or task force within the unit.
• Accept additional educational or marketing assignments as directed by the Manager.
• Maintain Therapeutic Options certification up to date.
• Exemplify a positive role model for patients and staff in conduct and appearance.

Schedule

12-hour night shifts with 36 hours guaranteed per week.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• At least 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience (required).
• De-escalation training (preferred).
• Certifications: NIH, BLS (AHA) required.
• Valid nursing license in the state of Oklahoma.
