Position Summary:

The Corporate Accounting Manager will provide operational accounting leadership and direct management of staff responsible for HDC's corporate accounting, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable functions. The Manager will work closely with accounting staff, the Property Controller, and department leaders to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, cash-flow management, audit preparation, property-to-parent reconciliation, and budget accountability. The position reports to the CFO.

• Own and manage the timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close of HDC's corporate and parent-company entities.
• Own the reconciliation of financial activity between HDC's property entities and the parent company, including due-to/due-from balances, management fees, asset-management fees, developer fees, property advances, reimbursements, shared-cost allocations, distributions, cash transfers, and consolidating or eliminating entries. Collaborate with the Property Controller and other departments to ensure transactions are recorded completely and in the appropriate entities and periods.
• Maintain the corporate general ledger, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, debt activity, payroll activity, intercompany transactions, allocations, and other recurring accounting entries. Ensure all corporate balance-sheet accounts are reconciled, adequately supported, and reviewed within established close deadlines.
• Prepare monthly corporate financial statements, supporting schedules, budget-to-actual variance analysis, and draft reporting packages requested by the CFO for executive, committee, Board, lender, and other stakeholder reporting.
• Monitor corporate cash balances and maintain a reliable rolling cash-flow forecast.
• Supervise the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, including workload management, transaction accuracy, aging reviews, and the timely resolution of outstanding items.
• Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for HDC's external auditors and own the annual organizational audit preparation and fieldwork process, ensuring all audit support is prepared, reviewed, and provided in a timely manner.
• Maintain appropriate internal controls over cash receipts, disbursements, vendor setup and changes, bank reconciliations, journal entries, account reconciliations, system access, payroll activity, and supporting documentation.
• Prepare HDC's corporate budget information, consolidate financial inputs, and maintain supporting workpapers. Provide department heads with monthly budget-to-actual reporting and work with them to understand significant variances, confirm that spending is consistent with approved budgets, and establish appropriate follow-up actions.
• Identify accounting matters requiring additional technical analysis. Research and document the relevant facts, coordinate with outside technical accounting advisors or auditors as appropriate, and present a recommended accounting treatment to the CFO.
• Coordinate the preparation of supporting schedules and financial information required for HDC's annual tax returns, Form 990, regulatory filings, and other corporate compliance requirements. Work with external preparers and monitor completion deadlines.
• Develop and maintain written accounting procedures, close checklists, reconciliation standards, audit-support files, and other necessary documentation. Identify opportunities to improve the speed, accuracy, documentation, and efficiency of HDC's corporate accounting processes.

Education, experience, and special requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
• Seven years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, including supervisory experience.
• Successful track record in leading high-performing teams, coordinating staff workload to achieve results and meet deadlines.
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections to various stakeholders.
• Experience with multi-entity accounting, preferably affordable housing, real estate, property management, retail, restaurant, or hospitality.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and financial modeling.
• Experience working with general ledgers and budgeting software.

Preferred Qualifications:

• CPA, MBA, or CMA
• Knowledge of nonprofit accounting
• Experience with the affordable housing industry
• Experience with Yardi software

• Work environment will be indoors in an office setting.
