Job Description:\n\nQUALIFICATIONS: \nHigh School Diploma or GED \nOne (1) year of experience, preferably in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) \nExperience in Endoscopy/Multi-specialty/Ophthalmology/ASC \nStrong knowledge of ICD 10 \nStrong knowledge of CPT (certification preferred not required) \nAbility to speak and understand the English language \nStrong ethical and moral character references \nBasic computer skills \nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: \nServes as telephone operator for center; routes incoming calls properly and takes accurate messages when unable to \nconnect caller to requested party \nReceives and distributes all mail and special deliveries \nGreets patients and provides necessary paperwork for completion \nNotifies appropriate nursing staff that patient is present after patient has completed paperwork \nKeeps track of patient's family, patient's driver, etc. \nEnsures that pharmaceutical/equipment representatives have appropriate badges and do not interfere with patient care \nor confidentiality \nPrints out all labels, forms, etc., for patient charts and assembles charts after appointment \nCalls appropriate agencies for assistance in case of emergency \nStamps the back of each check with deposit stamp at time of receipt \nMakes copies of all checks with EOBs in mail, credit card slips, and cash received from patients \nSeparates EOBs from checks and attaches orginal EOB to copy \nIssues appropriate receipts when receiving payments by cash or check directly from patients \nVerifies credit cards if used and issues appropriate duplicate receipts \nPosts all checks, credit card slips, and cash received to payments-received log, showing type of payment separately \nIf there are separate billing accounts (i.e., center, anesthesia, physicians), sorts and posts each to separate \npayments-received log \nBalances log to cash/checks/credit card payments \nCompletes deposit log for patient and insurance payments \nCompletes separate deposit log for other types of payments (e.g., refund of overpayment from accounts payable, etc.) \nIf there are separate billing accounts (i.e., center, anesthesia, physicians), sorts and posts each to separate \ndeposit logs \nBalances deposit log to payments-received log less credit card payments \nGives balanced payments-received log, deposit log,and originals and copies of all cash, credit card slips,and checks \nreceived to Business Office Manager \nSubmits secondary billing in a timely manner with appropriate supporting documentation \nReviews patient accounts for accuracy and completeness and obtain any missing information \nDemonstrates courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families \nParticipates in continuing education and other learning experiences \nShares knowledge gained in continuing education with staff \nMaintains membership in relevant professional organizations \nSeeks new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities \nWelcomes suggestions and recommendations \nRegular and predictable attendance \nPerforms progress and development of the organization's adopted performance-improvement program \nPerforms according to established performance-improvement policies and procedures \nSafety/Risk-Management Program \nAdheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities \nMaintains responsibility for safe work area by reporting to safety officer or designee observed or suspected safety \nviolations, hazards, and policies/procedure non-compliance \nResponds to emergency situations with competence and composure \nReports observed or suspected medical emergencies, notifies appropriate personnel and responds appropriately \nIdentifies Center emergency situations (e.g., fire, disaster) and notifies appropriate personnel and external agencies \nTeamwork \nWork well with others – be a team member \nReport observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure non-compliance to Safety Officer \nor other designated person, following the Chain of Command \nParticipate in staff meetings, in-services, committees, and continuing education as required \nSupports the Center's ideology, mission, goals, and objectives \nPerforms in accordance with the Center's policies and procedures \nConducts self as a positive role model and team member \nFollows the Center's standards for ethical business conduct \nRecognizes patients' rights and responsibilities and supports them in performance of job duties \nMATHEMATICAL SKILLS: \nAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, \ndecimals, and percentages \nLANGUAGE SKILLS: \nAbility to understand, read, write, and speak English, if bilingual Center, bilingual language is required. Ability to read, \nanalyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental \nregulations. Ability to successfully write business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information, \nrespond to questions, and professionally interact with healthcare team, clients, vendors, and the general public. \nREASONING ABILITY: \nDemonstrates an ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and \ncorrect errors. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and forms to understand abstract and concrete variables. \nAbility to think critically using inductive and deductive reasoning. \nPHYSICAL DEMANDS: \nAbility to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time, i.e., 6-8 hours per day \nAbility to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds in weight \nAbility to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously without \n"giving out” or fatiguing \nAbility to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole \nbody, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. \nAbility to position or transport patients, prepare medical procedure rooms, or set up patient care equipment \nAbility to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position \nAbility to keep or regain your body balance and stay upright \nAbility to exert yourself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath \nAbility to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears \nSpecific vision abilities for close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to \nadjust focus \nWORK ENVIRONMENT: \nDays and hours of work may vary to meet patient needs \nThe Center is a well-lit, ventilated and climate controlled environment. The Center may require decreased lighting to \nmeet patient care needs, such as laser rooms and some OR/Procedure rooms \nStaff will work with medical and office equipment, some of which will have moving parts \nNoise level is usually quiet to moderate \nStaff may have exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids and materials or toxic chemicals and \ncleaning solutions \nThe Center procedure rooms are often small, and due to equipment may have little room to work around and may \nnecessitate reaching, pulling, pushing \nStaff will work in close proximity to patients and co-workers
