Area Supervisor - Welding and Fabrication

The Area Supervisor- Welding and Fabrication supervises and coordinates the activities of manufacturing workers to safely and efficiently build and ship quality products to satisfy all customers. This position provides leadership, guidance, and direction to achieve business objectives while promoting safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Essential Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate daily manufacturing operations. Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow. Provide leadership, guidance, and direction while maintaining a safe and productive work environment. Ensure production schedules, quality standards, and customer shipment dates are met. Promote Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives. Coordinate labor requirements, support cross‑training, and develop employees. Uphold the Quality and EHS Policy, ISO Quality System standards, and Company Core Values. Qualifications Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Manufacturing and supervisory experience preferred. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. SAP and production scheduling experience preferred. Performs responsibilities and duties as assigned by the CoE General/Plant Manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (and any other duties that may be assigned): Inspires trust and respect in the workplace. Exhibits confidence in self and encourages others through daily activities. Provides leadership, guidance, direction, and authorization to carry out team goals based upon business objectives. Takes responsibility for subordinates’ work activities. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules and expedites workflow. Has/develops a strong understanding of SAP and other capacity planning tools and theories. Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances. Creates and follows prescribed safety rules and regulations and assures subordinates follow all safety rules and regulations. Performs or assists subordinates in performing duties (is a “working” supervisor when necessary). Creates an environment of continuous improvement of processes, controls, production, and labor that satisfy the customer. Works with MRP Controllers to create schedule timelines and departmental workloads to ensure sales order shipment dates are met. Develops a process plan including people, resources, equipment, and floor space for each customer order. Plans flow of materials through the plant, including the development of the physical layout of the plant, to assure that work is completed efficiently, profitably, and per schedule. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. Recommends and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of the product. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to improve/increase safety, the efficiency of shop, department, or work crew. Coordinates labor demand requirements by increasing or decreasing personnel and scheduling overtime staffing to meet changing schedule requirements and sales order demands. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems. Responsible for checking the accuracy of engineering, sales, and manufacturing office process input to ensure customer final product is correct and within quality acceptance guidelines. Ensures any changes or corrections to the product or product designs are communicated to appropriate departments and per established procedures so future product output is consistent with customer expectations. Initiates, implements, and sustains 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and other organizational, continuous improvement, and efficiency programs within the plant. Initiates and drives cross‑training throughout his/her area of responsibility to support and enhance workforce versatility, create an agile work center and meet company goals. Responsible for Monthly Department Safety Inspections. Completes and submits all accident and near miss reporting in their areas of supervision. Maintains and sustains 5S within the department. Upholds and supports the Quality and EHS policy. Practices, maintains, and adheres to ISO Quality System standards. Issues performance evaluations in a timely manner and disciplinary action for performance when applicable. Upholds the Core Values.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May manage/supervise 0-20 employees. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned areas of responsibility within the CoE. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Employee must be willing and able to successfully pass our in-house forklift & overhead crane certification program prior to operating these machines within our facility. Operating these machines is an essential function of this role. This certification program will assess proficiency in safe operation according to our company’s standards and protocols. Training will be provided.
