RESS Process Engineer

Job DescriptionWork Location:We are looking for Process Engineer to join our Spring Hill Battery Assembly manufacturing team with an emphasis on testing equipment. The successful candidate will work within the Battery Assembly Manufacturing Engineering (ME) organization in any or all of the Battery Assembly areas (Pack Main Line or Super Phase Module lines).Job Description:The successful candidate will work directly with Production Leadership in designing, implementing and maintaining Lean Manufacturing systems. The main purpose of the Manufacturing Battery Assembly Engineer is to provide professional technical knowledge, results and behaviors in the environment of new RESS manufacturing systems to sustain or increase safety, quality, throughput and efficiency. The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical to succeed in this role.What You'll Do:Ensure that RESS manufacturing processes are maintained to run effectively for production by:Support the day-to-day production needs on the production floor by maintaining solid relationships with the Production and Maintenance teamsEngineer, Design, Build, Implement and Maintain machinery, tools & equipmentManage significant downtime events by providing technical guidance and supportDesign work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements with high integrityDrive Continuous Improvement efforts in assigned area through the elimination of wasteEvaluate bottleneck areas and support throughput and productivity improvements in assigned areaSupport change management projects by developing and participating in production trialsReduce total cost by improving productivity metrics related to equipment uptime, cycle time and qualityParticipate in lean manufacturing through implementation of GM’s Global Manufacturing SystemSupport implementation and training for standardized work developmentBecome a coach and teacher of lean manufacturing principles to the production floor team membersDrive problem solving effortsWork collaboratively as one team with all levels of the organization Work collaboratively with machine and tool builders on the design and implementation of new tools and equipmentCreate and Maintain Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans and PFMEAsLead plant Equipment Install / Debug / Launch / Continuous Improvement activitiesContribute to lessons learned activities by providing feedback and information to the central process team for BOE/BOP updates Direct the design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants to produce high-quality parts and propulsion productsProvide technical direction to, and oversight of outside vendor sources when vendors are on siteDevelop and test of advanced process technologyLeverage GD&T skillsets to ensure manufacturing equipment, tooling, assembly processes, and quality verifications procedures meet design requirementsParticipate in Customer Quality, internal quality , Business Plan Deployment and Launch Wall meetingsEquipment Spare Part identification and stock request submissionAuthor Equipment Preventative Maintenance Plans and provide training for the Maintenance and Production teams to executeProblem-solve (analyze data, determine root causes, develop implementation plans) and resolve issues which are affecting assembly, quality or throughputSupport implementation of new processes & equipmentProactively identify & pursue opportunities to improve operations by reducing cost, reducing energy usage, improve quality, etc.Support corporate and plant safety policiesProvides technical support for manufacturing operationsProvide guidance and/or implementation of Electrical and Leak Test equipment; including PLC, Bauer programming, Thysenkrump programming logic updatesWork both mechanically and electrically to solve tooling problems. Coordinate input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs for both continuous improvement and product changes by being the hands on accountable personnel. Evaluate bottleneck areas and support throughput and productivity improvements in assigned areaYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):Ability and willingness to regularly work any shift as well as periodic weekends and holidays BS in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience3+ years of assembly or machining process development experience in Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering discipline with plant floor experience and a background in Continuous ImprovementExperience in troubleshooting equipment [Problem Solving / Debug] Competency in GD&TUnderstanding of Pneumatic, Mechanical, and Control drawings. Understanding / Application of Part Locating / Mechanics / Machine Design Understanding of Theory of ConstraintsExperience with Time Cycle Diagrams and Man / Machine Charts Technical knowledge & ability in process engineering disciplines and product development process Ability to apply agile methodologiesAbility to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systemsExperience in implementation of Lean Manufacturing concepts Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals requiredUnderstanding of quality systems.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex projects with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results.Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others.Your Skills & Abilities (Preferred Qualifications):3+ years of experience with Bauer Contols systems, including programming3+ years of experience with Thyssenkrupp/Krause Automation test systems, including programming3+ years of experience with automotive Electrical and Leak test equipment 3+ years of experience with QS-STAT, or equivalent, data analysis and collection systems. Experience with manufacturing requirements based on product, BOP/BOE, quality manual, and BIQ standards. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
