Part-Time Athletic Trainer

Position Overview

Provides athletic training services, emergency care, injury management, and sports medicine education within a school setting under the supervision of school and district leadership.

Leadership and Supervision

Reports to: Senior Coordinator, Athletics

Receives supervision from: School Principal, Athletic Director

Supervises: Student athletic trainers (with approval)

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and treat athletic injuries per physician's orders
• Provide emergency care, first aid, taping, and bandaging
• Document injuries; prepare reports for insurance and school records
• Coordinate injury rehabilitation and return-to-play plans in collaboration with medical staff
• Communicate injury status to coaches, parents, and stakeholders
• Monitor environmental conditions affecting athletic activities
• Manage athletic training supplies and kits; assist in budget development
• Follow practice/game procedures and schedules; notify relevant parties of conflicts
• Maintain a clean, organized athletic training clinic
• Offer first aid to visiting teams; enforce school policies (weight room, bloodborne pathogens, concussion)
• Teach one sports medicine class annually

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Certified/licensed Athletic Trainer (BOC, Virginia license)
• CPR/AED certification (Instructor preferred)
• Knowledge of emergency protocols, injury management, and sports medicine best practices
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Minimum Education, Training & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree (master's preferred) in Athletic Training or related field
• Valid First Aid and CPR/AED certification
• Experience as a certified Athletic Trainer

License and Certification Requirements

• Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC)
• Virginia Athletic Trainer License or provisional license
• CPR/AED certification (Instructor preferred)
• Tuberculin Skin Test certification

Work Environment

• School athletic facilities, clinics, and outdoor fields
• Collaborative environment with staff, students, and medical professionals

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, and lifting (up to 50 lbs)
• Repetitive motion during injury assessments and taping
• Exposure to weather conditions during outdoor activities
• Availability during scheduled practices, games, and emergencies
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required
• Ability to respond quickly to injuries and environmental hazards
