Job Description The New York City Law Department is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel, Electronic Discovery Attorney, in its Labor and Employment Law Division. The Labor and Employment Law Division defends the City in complex and challenging state and federal actions arising from the City’s role as an employer. Attorneys in the Division litigate a broad range of matters, including First Amendment retaliation; gender, race, age, and disability discrimination; civil service law issues; and wage and hour litigation. The Electronic Discovery Attorney supports Division attorneys by conducting comprehensive searches of both paper and electronic records for document production, and by coordinating with information technology systems across City agencies to address complex discovery requirements. The Electronic Discovery Attorney also provides guidance on all stages of the e discovery process, including issuing preservation notices, drafting and negotiating agreements pertaining to electronically stored information (ESI), evaluating confidentiality stipulations, and reviewing affirmative and responsive correspondence and motions related to ESI production. Additionally, the Electronic Discovery Attorney participates in meet and confer sessions with opposing counsel and appears at court conferences where ESI related matters are addressed. Salary Information 0–5 years of legal experience: $87,737–$122,300 5–10 years of legal experience: $122,300–$137,188 10–15 years of legal experience: $137,188–$159,521 15–20 years of legal experience: $159,521–$180,791 20+ years of legal experience: $180,791–$188,235 Candidates with highly specialized experience may qualify for salaries slightly above these ranges when a role requires such expertise or the position is considered hard to fill. Work From Home Options Following orientation, attorneys may elect to participate in one of two remote work programs: Flexible Remote Work: Allows limited, irregular work from home days. Citywide Pilot Program: Allows attorneys to work remotely on two set days per week, subject to Division approval and staffing needs. Participants must maintain a single designated remote work location, and in person obligations take precedence over scheduled remote days. This pilot is currently being tested across City agencies and is not yet permanent. Qualifications The Labor and Employment Law Division is dedicated to providing outstanding legal advocacy on behalf of the City. Accordingly, applicants must have three years of litigation experience after graduating from an ABA‑accredited law school. Applicants must also be admitted and in good standing with the New York State Bar.
