Social Media Content Creator

The Role at a Glance 

The Social Media Content Creator is FAO Schwarz’s in-house photographer and videographer. You shoot and edit the original content that powers our social channels, our website and our Amazon listings, working with the social and marketing teams on what gets made and where it goes. 

You own the content from idea to finished asset. You shoot in our locations, edit to a high standard, and shape each piece for the channel it will live on, from TikTok and Instagram to Amazon listings. You bring fresh ideas and keep every product in our catalogue visible. 

Creating the Magic 

As the Social Media Content Creator, you will: 

• Shoot and edit original photography and video at a pace that supports daily posting across our social channels. 

• Close the gap in our product catalogue by building video and photo assets for products that have none, so every product can be found, understood and bought across social, our website and Amazon listings. 

• Shape each piece of content for the platform it lands on, across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and e-commerce, and republish user-generated and influencer content in the formats the business needs. 

• Track social trends, competitors and best-in-class executions, then turn what you find into clear content proposals the social and marketing teams can act on. 

• Pitch original ideas that give audiences a reason to rewatch, share, and follow, backed by what you see working. 

• Apply brand style templates to new and existing social content, keeping every story and post consistent, and flag where templates or workflows can be improved. 

• Shoot in the live store across 30 Rock and our Nordstrom boutique while guests shop and teams sell, without disrupting trading. Follow store guidelines for filming guests, especially children, and secure the permissions and releases needed before anything is published. 

• Partner with the creative, social, marketing, events, and special guest teams to cover major events, openings, and high-profile visits, with content planned in advance and agreed before cameras roll. 

What Success looks like 

You’re doing well in this role when: 

• Our social channels have fresh, original content to post every day. 

• Products that once had no assets now have video and photo content, and the backlog shrinks month on month. 

• Content works on every platform it is made for and is ready to use on the website and Amazon listings without rework. 

• Social and marketing teams use your trend insights and ideas to shape what gets made next. 

• Content is on brand and recognizably FAO Schwarz across every channel. 

• Shoots never hold up trading, and anyone filmed has given permission. 

• Major events and special guest visits are captured on the day and published while they are still news. 

• Your content earns views, shares and saves, and you can explain what is working and why. 

This role aligns with IC4 in our Career Framework. At this level, individuals operate autonomously within their area of expertise, manage complex work with minimal guidance, and contribute to improving processes and outcomes within their team and connected teams.

Requirements

• 2+ years creating social content, with a portfolio showing original photography and video across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. 

• Hands-on skill across the full production cycle: filming, editing, colour correction and sound design. 

• Fluency in Adobe tools such as Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Illustrator, plus Figma. We are happy to work with whatever you are most comfortable in. 

• A sharp eye for photography, composition and platform specifications, including formats suited to e-commerce. 

• Strong creative instinct, with a track record of turning trends into ideas that perform. 

• Working knowledge of consent and release requirements for filming guests, including children. 

• Confidence shooting in a fast-paced, working retail environment where guests and teams are part of the scene. 

• Autonomy and good judgement: you plan your own work, handle moving priorities and ask for help early. 

• The ability to travel between our New York locations during a shift and carry camera equipment of up to 25 pounds. 

• Flexibility to work days, evenings and weekends when events and peak retail periods call for it. 

• Nice to have: comfort on camera, whether that is a quick walk-through of the store, a trend, or a hello to guests.
