Lathe Machinist
Pay - $26/hr.+ (1st shift)

Job Description
The Lathe Machinist independently sets up, runs, and adjusts 1-2 CNC lathes in a clean, climate-controlled production environment. This role focuses on precision machining of a wide variety of parts, including interpreting blueprints, making program edits, and ensuring high-quality output using modern CNC equipment.
Responsibilities

• Independently set up, operate, and change over 1-2 CNC lathes to produce precision parts.
• Interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings to meet exact specifications and tolerances.
• Perform machine set-ups, including tooling selection, fixture installation, and part alignment for efficient production runs.
• Make edits to existing CNC programs at the machine to optimize performance and correct issues as needed.
• Monitor machine operation, inspect parts, and adjust offsets or tooling to maintain quality standards.
• Use measurement tools and inspection methods to verify part dimensions and ensure compliance with customer requirements.
• Work with CNC controls, including Okuma and multi-axis equipment, to run a variety of machining operations.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow shop safety procedures at all times.
• Collaborate with team members and leadership to support continuous improvement and efficient workflow.
• Adapt to machining a wide variety of parts, embracing daily variation in work and part complexity.

Essential Skills

• At least 2+ years of lathe machining experience in a production or job shop environment.
• Proven ability to independently set up CNC lathes, including tooling, fixtures, and program selection.
• Ability to independently change over equipment between jobs while maintaining efficiency and quality.
• Capability to make edits to CNC programs at the machine to improve performance or correct issues.
• Hands-on experience with CNC lathe operation and machining processes.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
• Familiarity with CNC controls and lathe machining on modern equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts.
• Ability to work autonomously, make sound decisions at the machine, and take ownership of work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• G-code programming experience is a plus and valued for this role.
• Experience with 5+ axis machining is considered a strong advantage.
• Background working with Okuma CNC machines or similar controls is beneficial.
• Comfort working with a variety of part types and materials in a dynamic production environment.
• Willingness to learn new equipment and processes as the shop updates its machinery.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

Work Environment
The role is based in a well-maintained, climate-controlled shop that emphasizes clean, safe working conditions and modern CNC technology. Work is performed on newer CNC equipment, including lathes and potentially multi-axis machines, in a production environment that values organization and safety. The position is on 1st shift, running from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with limited overtime, offering a consistent daytime schedule and no rotation to off shifts. Uniforms are provided, and the shop environment supports focused, high-precision work while offering autonomy and variety in the parts machined.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shawnee, KS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
