Motor Vehicle OperatorAt Stony Brook Medicine, a Motor Vehicle Operator regularly drives any of a variety of motor vehicles including automobiles, buses, trucks, and ambulances in order to transport people, material, and equipment as required. Duties may include driving a variety of motor vehicles both on and off State property to transport people, material, and equipment as required and plowing snow from roadways and parking lots. May map routes, itineraries and points of call. Moves or carries cargo onto, into, off of, or out of the vehicle operated. Moves or carries cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point. Posts manifests, inventories, and other records of goods and people transported. Starts, stops, steers and controls vehicles both on the grounds of State institutions and facilities and over-the-road. Monitors gauges and checks fluid levels and tire pressures. Tends to the routine maintenance of vehicles operated in order to insure that cargo is moved as required. Changes oil and spark plugs. Changes tires and washes vehicles. Pumps gas and adds water to radiator, oil to crankcase and air to the tires. Replaces lamp bulbs. Posts manifests and other records of goods and people transported in order to document their safe delivery.Required Qualifications:Candidates must possess a New York State driver license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Candidates may be required to possess a CDL Class A, B, C or General Class D license. Knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of the vehicle in question. Knowledge of the nature of cargo carried and any special handling required. Knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures. Ability in the operation of motor vehicles as required. Ability to lift and carry crates, cartons, boxes and other cargo onto and off of transport vehicles.Preferred Qualifications:Driver must be able to read, write and communicate in English. The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as: Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($4000). Your total compensation goes beyond the number in your paycheck.
