Occupational Therapist Acute Care

Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist (OT) in an acute care hospital setting provides specialized rehabilitation services to patients requiring therapeutic interventions to improve their functional abilities. The OT collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, focusing on restoring patient independence and enhancing quality of life. This role requires clinical expertise, strong communication skills, and adherence to hospital protocols within a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations and assessments to determine functional status and therapy needs.
• Develop, implement, and modify individualized treatment plans based on patient goals and clinical findings.
• Provide direct therapeutic interventions to patients to improve motor skills, cognitive function, and daily living activities.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Document patient progress and treatment outcomes accurately in the Epic electronic medical record system.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and discharge planning.
• Adhere to infection control and safety protocols within the acute care environment.
• Assist with patient education and family training as appropriate.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Alaska Occupational Therapist license.
• National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum of 1 year of occupational therapy experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records, preferably Epic.
• Strong clinical assessment and treatment planning skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in Magnet or Level II Trauma hospital settings.
• Familiarity with acute care rehabilitation protocols and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Ability to adapt to variable patient needs and acuity levels.

Special Considerations:

• Shift options include 4x10 or 5x8 day shifts; 4x10 shifts may not consistently provide three days off in a row.
• Weekend work required approximately 2 weekend days per month.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Time off requests (RTO) are approved individually and must be submitted with application.
• Local candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; pending licenses are accepted.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule is primarily day shifts, either four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts per week.
• Scheduling prioritizes coverage on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
• Block scheduling accommodations are not available.
