ELECTRONIC METER TECHNICIAN I

(Current openings are in the Meter Operations Section of the Grid Transformation & Project Management Department)

1. Minimum Certification Requirements

Associate's degree in electrical or electronic engineering technology from an accredited institution is required.

No experience is required.

• Employees must not have a positive drug or alcohol test result within the past 12 months prior to a job posting.
• Employees must not have any disciplinary actions that include suspension without pay within the past 12 months prior to the job posting. The disciplinary action date is defined as the first day of suspension.
• Employees must have a "good" overall job performance on their last performance appraisal.
• Employees must have taken and passed the most recent Safety Manual Test to certify for any job that would be a promotion.

2. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist and learn to configure, install, test, repair, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, remove, and replace single and multi-phase mechanical and electronic meters and metering equipment. Routine exposure to high and low voltages in performing job tasks.
• Assist and learn to install, monitor, and resolve issues related to automated metering equipment and associated applications such as remote disconnect/reconnect, pre-paid metering, time-of-use metering, load profiling and outage detection.
• Assist and learn to configure, install, program, test, troubleshoot, and maintain network communication and equipment for the automated meter infrastructure.
• Learn to operate testing equipment to troubleshoot failed installations or for accuracy evaluations on all types of meters.
• Learn to use computer equipment to research, analyze, and retrieve data; initiate, update and complete requests for work; and document comments, changes, damage or hazardous conditions.
• Assist and learn to program automated meters and related devices using computer equipment, kilovolt amps or reactive metering (KVA) conversions and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems.
• Communicate with employees, customers, and other entities through personal contact, telephone, radio, writing, or electronic means to provide information or to answer questions related to the area of responsibility. Resolve problems within prescribed standards.
• Learn to identify metering issues or hazards such as tampering, unsafe wiring, crossed meters, and inaccurate metering situations and to take steps to correct the issue or hazard as appropriate.
• Operate company vehicle including aerial devices. Maintain meter material and inventory.
• Complete training program for Electronic Meter Technician I including written materials and/or on the job training.
• Perform work in a safe manner to protect employees, the public, and property.

3. Working Conditions

• The working environment of this job includes physical surroundings that are undesirable. There is regular or extreme exposure to multiple disagreeable elements or hazards. This job demands heavy physical effort. Frequently moves or lifts heavy objects (50 pounds or more). Requires strenuous physical exertion such as standing, walking, climbing, crouching or crawling in restricted spaces for extended periods.

4. Additional Requirements

• Note: The selection process for this position will involve behavioral interviews.
• Must be able to pass a physical abilities test.

5. Special Licensing and Certification

• Must have a valid Class D driver's license from state of residence in accordance with state law.

NOTE:

The current Minimum rate is $35.03 per hour, and the Maximum rate is $49.50 per hour.
