The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for part-time Courthouse Security Deputy. Courthouse Security Deputy is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all courthouse employees, officials, and visitors. This includes monitoring entrances, screening individuals, responding to disturbances, enforcing State laws, local ordinances, and courthouse policies and procedures. This part-time position has a flexible work schedule based on the needs of the Courthouse Security Division with an hourly wage ranging from $25.00- $27.00 per hour. IPERS and vacation are earned based on hours worked. Job Duties General Responsibilities and Duties: Investigate crimes against persons and property and act to apprehend suspects before there is any further damage or danger to the public. Conduct security checks and patrols inside and around the courthouse. Recognizes and responds to potentially dangerous incidents and uses effective verbalization skills to de-escalate and control situations and, if necessary, use a justifiable and reasonable amount of force necessary to gain control. Restore and maintain order within courtrooms and public areas. Demonstrates proficiency in defensive tactics, chemical deterrents and electronic control devices. Understands proper options and applications of mechanical/electronic restraints. Conducts operational checks on alarm/security equipment. Protect persons in immediate danger of injury or death by others. May be required to give first aid to victims of injury or illness. Initiate the filing of charges against suspected criminals by filing information, complaint forms, investigative reports, and criminal histories with the County Attorney’s Office and the Clerk of Court. Write detailed and accurate reports to document all activity by the deputy, including preliminary complaints, supplemental and follow-up investigations, and daily activity logs. Escort prisoners to court or detention facility. Prevents escapes through security, inspection, vigilance and the appropriate use of force, if necessary. Assists with court functions during initial appearances of prisoners, such as providing court appointed counsel forms, documenting fines and sentences, bond amounts, bond conditions, and service of no-contact orders. Execute arrest warrants by locating and physically taking custody of persons named in warrants and transporting them to a detention facility. Expedite and serve legal documents, such as garnishments, writs of attachment, warrants, subpoena, summons, court orders, and others. Perform duties as required of them by the Sheriff and in accordance with Chapter 331.653 of the Iowa Code. Job Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Must be a current or past certified peace officer who left previous law enforcement employment in good standing, or certified reserve peace officer in the State of Iowa. A high school graduate with a diploma or possesses an equivalency certificate which meets the minimum score required by the State of Iowa as determined by the State Department of Public Instruction. Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, psychological and polygraph testing. Satisfactory driving record and possession of a valid driver’s license. Physical agility and endurance to perform all required duties. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
