Nurse Position at Greene County Juvenile Detention Center

The Nurse is a professional person appointed to manage the medical care of juveniles at the Greene County Juvenile Detention Center in Xenia, Ohio. The Nurse has primary responsibility for managing operational activities of the medical program while promoting the goals, objects and mission of the organization, while also ensuring the health and well-being of the youth in the Court's care. The Nurse is charged with providing a standard of performance in accordance with the Ohio Administrative Code and the Ohio Revised Code regarding the Ohio Department of Juvenile Services standards for Community Correctional Facilities, the American Correction Association standards for Juvenile Residential Correctional Facilities, the Prison Rape Elimination Act and medical standards consistent with licensure as a Registered Nurse. The Nurse is an unclassified employee appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of, the Greene County Juvenile Court Judge under provision 2151.13 of the Ohio Revised Code.

Job duties include medical direct care, medication management, psychiatric services support, administrative function, medical training, quality assurance, infection control, and participation in meetings/committees.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include nursing best practices, medical assessment, medications and side-effects, infection control, use of medical supplies and equipment, supervision best practices, security best practices, criminology and juvenile delinquency, juvenile rights, communication skills, time management skills, organization skills, recognition and effective response to unusual or threatening conditions, effective response in crisis situations pursuant to training, accurate and neat record-keeping, conduct of inspections, maintenance of positive relationships with juvenile, co-workers and the general public, physical fitness, presentation to public, tour groups and/or professional personnel in court settings, cooperation in investigations regarding serious or critical incidents, application of cognitive-behavioral interventions including behavior reinforcement/effective punishment and cognitive re-structuring techniques, role model for at-risk juvenile modeling pro-social behavior at every opportunity, high degree of discretion dealing with confidential information, maintenance of positive relationships with co-workers and the general public, ability to represent the organization/appointing authority in a positive manner in the community.

Minimum requirements include an Associates Degree in nursing or a Licensed Practical Nurse, current Ohio Registered Nurse license or certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse, CPR/First Aid teaching certification, satisfactory completion of physical examination, professional references check, criminal background check, sexual risk assessment, Ohio Attorney General Offender Search, and confirmation of valid Drivers' license.

Work conditions include a fast-paced environment involving deadlines, routine physical requirements, additional physical requirements for staff in contact with juvenile residents, sedentary work, standing and walking required frequently, flexible work schedule, core work times generally Monday-Friday, 6am-4pm, on-call 24 hours day/7 days week, classified as an essential worker, required to report to work during inclement weather and/or other emergencies, unless a medical emergency, FLSA: Exempt.

Training and development include minimum of 40 hours of orientation training, additional 40 hours of training within the first year of employment, minimum of 40 hours of annual training after the first year of employment, CPR/1st Aid/AED certification, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification, Greene County Risk Management training, Prison Rape Elimination Act policy, procedure and practice, Introduction to Cognitive Behavioral Interventions, Greene County Personnel Handbook.

Notices include adherence to all court policies, guidelines, practices and procedures, role model both inside and outside the Court, maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters, perform duties as workload necessitates in a timely, accurate and thorough manner, be conscientious about meeting productivity standards, communicate regularly with the Judge about all Court related issues, routine work hours between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, on-call position, flex scheduling and remote work possible and requires pre-approval by the Judge, at-will employees and serve at the pleasure of the Court, not in the classified civil service system and not members of bargaining units, drug-free workplace policy, Equal Opportunity Employer, mandated reporters required to report harassment, abuse and/or neglect pursuant to established policy and procedure, making reports to Children Services when abuse and/or neglect is suspected.

The County pays 80% of the health care premium and 39% of the dental premium. All full-time employees are eligible for $50,000 group life insurance paid 100% by the County.
