Job Summary Title: Mental Health Therapy Aide (MHTA) – Direct Care Positions (NY HELPS), Hutchings Psychiatric Center, P27339 Location: 620 Madison Street, Syracuse, NY 13210, Onondaga County Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent, Non-competitive Class Salary: $52,225 – $56,413 annually Hours and Shifts: 12:00 AM – 11:30 PM, 40 hours per week, all shifts including weekends; mandatory overtime, no flextime, no telecommuting. Responsibilities Support patient health and safety. Assist with personal care tasks. Teach daily life skills such as personal hygiene and nutrition. Accompany individuals to treatment, activities, and appointments on and off facility grounds. Observe treatment responses and document observations. Attend treatment team meetings and share observations on progress toward recovery goals. Assist in crisis and emergency situations to protect the welfare of individuals, staff, and others. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalency (for candidates outside or within State Service under the NY HELPS program). OR one year of permanent competitive or 55‑b/55‑c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law (for State Service candidates). Additional Requirements Willingness to work any shift, weekday, and weekend. Ability to communicate and follow oral and written instructions in English. May be required to attend a physical exam, undergo medical standards evaluation, and a drug screening test. License to operate a motor vehicle in New York State may be required.
