Corporate Accounting Manager - Direct Hire (Onsite: Houston, TX)

The Corporate Accounting Manager – Payroll will work under limited supervision and provide leadership for payroll accounting activities supporting the U.S. and Canada. This role oversees payroll accounting operations for a large employee population and leads a team responsible for accurate payroll-related accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and related business processes. The position requires a strong understanding of both payroll and accounting, including the connection between payroll activity, the general ledger, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting. The manager will also play an important role in process improvement, issue resolution, employee development, and the continued enhancement of payroll and accounting processes. Salary: $125,000 – $170,000 per year, depending on experience Responsibilities Oversee U.S. and Canada payroll accounting activities supporting a large employee population. Lead and develop a payroll accounting team, including training, mentoring, performance management, and employee development. Oversee the preparation, review, and accuracy of payroll accounting activities and related financial transactions. Support payroll-related general ledger activities, including accruals, account reconciliations, and financial close activities. Review payroll accounting activity and investigate discrepancies or issues using SAP and related business applications. Ensure payroll transactions are properly reflected in the general ledger and financial reporting. Support internal and external payroll audits and provide accounting information and documentation as required. Interpret and apply company policies, accounting principles, and internal controls to payroll-related transactions. Perform internal control assessments and identify opportunities to strengthen payroll accounting processes. Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of payroll accounting operations. Support projects involving payroll processes, systems, and related accounting activities. Prepare forecasts, reports, and other financial information supporting business and management decisions. Partner with internal stakeholders to resolve complex payroll and accounting issues. Support the continued transition and utilization of SAP within the payroll accounting environment. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required. 8–15 years of progressive experience in accounting and/or payroll-related roles, including management or supervisory experience. Significant experience with large-scale payroll processing, preferably supporting 10,000+ employees. Experience supporting U.S. and Canada payroll preferred. Strong understanding of payroll accounting, general ledger activities, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. Experience with ADP GlobalView required. Experience with SAP required; experience with SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA is preferred. Experience supporting payroll audits and internal controls. Demonstrated experience leading process improvements or automation initiatives. Experience training, mentoring, and developing accounting or payroll personnel. Strong analytical skills and the ability to investigate complex accounting and payroll discrepancies. Preferred Qualifications Experience with ADP SmartCompliance. Experience with BlackLine. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables and financial analysis. Project management experience. Experience with stock or equity payroll. Knowledge of international taxation. Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume payroll environment. Professional accounting certification preferred.
