Job Title: Aircraft Structures Assembler (Contract-to-Perm, Multiple Shifts)
Job Description
This contract-to-permanent role focuses on assembling, modifying, and installing aircraft components, sub-assemblies, and structural assemblies in a climate-controlled production environment. You will work with basic sheet metal, riveting, and complex composite structures, using blueprints, specifications, and work orders to meet stringent quality requirements. The position also involves identifying nonconforming parts and processes, performing rework as needed, and contributing to continuous improvement in assembly methods and shop practices.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and work orders to assemble aircraft components and structures to defined quality standards.
- Assemble, modify, and install aircraft components, sub-assemblies, structural assemblies, and spares in accordance with customer and engineering requirements.
- Complete all required data gathering and documentation to accurately record assembly progress and process information.
- Set up and operate shop equipment such as squeezes, drill motors, countersink cutters, precision measuring tools, and floor-mounted rivet presses.
- Use forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment to move and position parts, materials, tools, and assemblies safely and efficiently.
- Perform complex assembly work, including complex compound unique shimming, structures mechanic tasks, and composite fabrication and assembly (including 787 frames composite assembly).
- Identify nonconforming parts, conditions, and manufacturing processes, and communicate findings to support corrective actions.
- Perform required rework, repairs, and changes incorporated during the assembly process to ensure final assemblies meet specifications.
- Assemble major components of sub-assemblies, major assemblies, and smaller bench work assemblies with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Troubleshoot issues that arise during assembly and actively suggest and support process improvements.
- Record process information clearly and accurately in written form as required by production and quality procedures.
- Follow all safety procedures when working near moving mechanical parts, using tools and equipment, and handling chemicals or composites.
- Maintain good time management to support production schedules and meet deadlines, including working scheduled overtime when required.
Essential Skills
- Experience with basic sheet metal work and structural assembly in an aerospace or similar manufacturing environment.
- 2–5 years of complex assembly experience, including work with complex structures and shimming.
- 2–5 years of structures mechanic or structures assembly experience.
- Ability to interpret and work from blueprints, specifications, and work orders.
- Proficiency with riveting and structural fastening methods, including the use of rivet presses and hand tools.
- Experience with composite materials, composite fabrication, and composite assembly, including frames such as 787 composite assemblies.
- Ability to use drill motors, countersink cutters, precision measuring tools, and other common shop equipment safely and accurately.
- Strong time management skills to support production schedules and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to communicate verbally regarding work processes and issues with team members and supervisors.
- Ability to write and record process information clearly and accurately.
- Capability to identify nonconforming parts, conditions, and processes and escalate appropriately.
- Physical ability to regularly stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and use hands to perform assembly tasks, and to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Approximately six months of vocational training related to manufacturing, assembly, or a similar technical field.
- Experience using forklifts, drill presses, floor-mounted rivet presses, and overhead cranes.
- Previous experience with major aerospace manufacturers or suppliers (for example, large airframe or structures programs) is preferred.
- Experience in complex assembly of spares and structures in an aerospace or advanced manufacturing environment.
- Comfort working with composites, including composite materials and complex composite assemblies.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot assembly issues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Environment
This is a full-time, contract-to-permanent position in a climate-controlled manufacturing facility focused on aircraft structures and composite assemblies. First shift typically runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime commonly available on Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Second shift typically runs from 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with additional work on Fridays and Saturdays as needed, targeting approximately 60 hours per week when overtime is required. You will regularly work around moving mechanical parts and use equipment such as forklifts, drill presses, floor-mounted rivet presses, overhead cranes, drill motors, countersink cutters, and various hand and precision measuring tools. The environment may include exposure to vibration, fumes or airborne particles, and occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, with a loud noise level typical of heavy manufacturing. The role requires frequent standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands for assembly, as well as occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. Steel-toe boots are required as part of the dress code, and safety practices and accommodations support a safe and inclusive work setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
