Certified Maintenance Technician

Supervisor(s): Director of Operations for Maintenance

Job Goals:

• To provide outstanding maintenance services for school system facilities and structures.
• To assist in maintaining school system facilities to provide supportive work and learning environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma, trade school diploma, or GED.
2. Three (3) years of experience in the designated trade/skill area or a combination of training/experience.
3. Experience in school facility maintenance.
4. Possess and maintain appropriate State or National card, certification or licensure for the assigned trade or skill area, including long and short certificates from an accredited institution.
5. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
6. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class "A" CDL within one year of employment.
7. Demonstrated skills using standard tools, materials, methods, and practices of the assigned trade or skill area.
8. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the specific trades.
9. Ability to read and follow plans, directions, and layouts.
10. Ability to prioritize tasks.
11. Ability to make estimates of time and material needed for efficient project completion.
12. Ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights.
13. Ability to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.
14. Strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
15. Ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force.
16. Ability to work in locations involving heights or confined spaces.
17. Ability and willingness to work indoors and outdoors year-round in noisy, crowded environments, and inclement weather.
18. Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays if necessary.
19. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
20. Provide basic hand tools for assigned duties.
21. Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
2. Constructs, maintains, services, inspects, and repairs of school system structures as assigned.
3. Maintains and repairs items or systems in assigned skill or trade area; performs inspections, diagnoses of issues requiring attention, and executes needed repairs or maintenance.
4. Keeps service truck washed as needed and serviced at intervals established by the Transportation Department.
5. Estimates materials and numbers of workers needed for completion of jobs.
6. Completes work order assignments without close supervision, efficiently and neatly; completes all projects in compliance with trade standards.
7. Prioritizes tasks and uses time wisely.
8. Uses problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and effective interpersonal skills to supervise other designated maintenance personnel when assigned.
9. Engages in work-related training to increase knowledge and skills as directed and/or for advancement.
10. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
11. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
12. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
13. Responds to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive manner.
14. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
15. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system.
16. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
17. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
18. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment: As established by the Board and applicable state law.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
