Job Description

The QC Technician ensures that products meet defined quality standards by performing inspections, supporting the quality management system, and driving continuous improvement across production processes. This role establishes and maintains training programs, conducts in‑process and final inspections, and collaborates closely with operations to identify and resolve quality issues while actively supporting safety and 5S initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain training programs to keep personnel current on inspection methods, test methods, and quality standards.
• Participate in safety programs and actively uphold a strong safety culture throughout daily activities.
• Communicate effectively with production and other teams regarding potential production issues, quality concerns, and resource needs.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and actively participate in improving existing processes and procedures.
• Participate in plant 5S initiatives and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Perform in‑process and final inspections of bridge components and other products to verify compliance with specifications and requirements.
• Conduct periodic inspections on processes and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with quality standards and documented requirements.
• Interpret drawings and project documents and make accurate assessments of product compliance.
• Assist in the creation, implementation, and improvement of the quality management system, including its various elements.
• Create, maintain, and audit procedures and work instructions to ensure they remain accurate, effective, and compliant.
• Plan, conduct, and manage quality assurance audits, including internal audits, to verify adherence to standards and procedures.
• Manage monitoring and measuring devices, including their proper use, control, and calibration status.
• Perform quality checks, tests, and inspections, including those related to concrete work, such as concrete mixing, pouring, finishing, and testing, where applicable.
• Support document control activities to ensure quality records, procedures, and work instructions are properly maintained and accessible.
• Apply quality standards and quality improvement practices in daily work to enhance product reliability and consistency.
• Use basic arithmetic, including working with fractions and decimals, as well as metric and imperial (U.S. standard) measurements, during inspection and testing.
• Collaborate as a team player in a fast‑paced, continually changing production environment to resolve issues and maintain product flow.
• Make objective, fact‑based decisions related to product compliance and assertively enforce adherence to quality requirements.
• Perform other quality‑related tasks and duties as assigned to support production and organizational goals.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of experience in metal fabrication, inspection, and testing.
• Ability to attain AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification within 6 months of employment.
• Ability to read, handwrite, and type in English at a level consistent with a high school education.
• Proficiency in reading and comprehending complex instructions, work orders, drawings, and project documents.
• Demonstrated proficiency in basic arithmetic, including working with fractions and decimals.
• Ability to accurately use measuring devices and interpret metric and imperial (U.S. standard) measurements.
• Strong visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, sufficient for detailed inspection work.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of routine job duties.
• Ability to work overtime as necessary outside the normally scheduled shift, including weekends and holidays, often with little or no advance notice.
• Ability to work as an objective decision maker and be assertive in ensuring compliance with quality standards.
• Detail‑oriented approach with strong attention to accuracy and completeness.
• Solid math, analytical, and problem‑solving skills applicable to quality and inspection tasks.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member in a fast‑paced, continually changing environment.
• Comfort working in environments with exposure to extremes in temperature.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with welding processes and welding equipment is preferred.
• Experience with development, preparation, qualification, and execution of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) is preferred.
• Prior experience in a quality control and/or inspection role is preferred.
• Experience and/or certification in nondestructive testing (NDT) is preferred.
• Familiarity with standards such as AISC, AWS D1.5, AWS D1.4, and AWS D1.1 is preferred.
• Experience as a weld technician is preferred.
• Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies, root cause analysis, and conducting internal audits is preferred.
• Experience with quality standards, quality checks, and quality tests in a manufacturing or construction environment is beneficial.
• Experience in concrete work, including concrete construction, mixing, pouring, finishing, testing, and working with concrete slabs and foundations, is advantageous.
• Experience with document control and maintaining quality documentation is a plus.

Work Environment

This role is based in a concrete plant environment that is typically dusty and non‑climate‑controlled, with exposure to temperature extremes depending on the season. Work takes place in and around active production areas, requiring consistent adherence to safety practices and the 5S methodology to maintain cleanliness and organization. The position may involve extended periods on the shop floor and the handling of materials up to 50 pounds. Standard work attire is practical, durable clothing suitable for an industrial setting, complemented by appropriate personal protective equipment as required by site safety policies. Overtime, including weekends and holidays, may be required to support production and quality needs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Concord, NC.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
