You will perform the duties as a fiber splicer as a part of the construction of telecommunications outside plant to ensure scope of work performed is within standards required by customer. What You’ll Do You will, with guidance, splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables. You will, climb utility poles or towers, utilizes truck mounted lift-bucket or descends into underground vaults. You will cut sheath from installed cable to gain access to defective cable connections as well as cuts and peels sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors. You will test (traces or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamp or bell system. You will read and interpret (i.e. mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints diagrams, etc. What You’ll Need You will have 0-1 or more years experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation. You will have a high school diploma or equivalent. You are able to lift up to 80 lbs. Apprentice/Entry Level Basic understanding of splicing principles or ability to learn. Basic experience with electrical work. Experience working from hand-holes and manholes. Must pass company drug testing. Must know the color code system for cable pairs. Ability to work in confined spaces. Possesses strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to work with internal and external customers. Must have strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with product vendors and customers. Ability to work from oral or written instructions and plan work without direct supervision. Possesses proficient personal computer operations skills. Comply with all safety regulations and meet safety requirements to maintain a successful safety record. Assume all duties as assigned. Additional Requirements Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid driver’s license. Must be at least 18 years of age to operate company equipment or to drive company vehicles. Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening. Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed. May be required to work over‑time; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or be on‑call as work is needed to ensure work is completed. May include working nights and holidays as needed. May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business and job requirements. Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position. Physical & Safety Requirements And The Working Environment Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping while on shift. The noise level in the work environment for this position is moderate. This position will be out in the field on job sites as well as in the office. Employees performing functions of this position are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog. Employees performing these job functions are required to lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds. Employees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens. Employees may be exposed to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces. Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include but are not limited to: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus potentially near and/or far as needed. Pay Range The hourly wage range for the Splicer I Fiber role is $24 - $26 depending on experience.
