Job Summary Operates the heart/lung machine required for total or partial cardiopulmonary bypass during surgical correction of various cardiac defects and other diseases of the heart and great vessels. Essential Responsibilities Upholds Kaiser Permanente Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws. Initiates emergency procedures (including CPR) and provides emergency patient treatment. Participates in patient procedures and activities. Assists physician in developing new techniques and procedures. Assists providers in patient examinations and procedures. Consults with providers concerning procedures and patient condition. Follows standard infection control procedures. Monitors and evaluates test readings during procedures. Observes, monitors, and evaluates patient conditions during and after procedures. Takes, records, and monitors patient vital signs. Transports patients to and from the procedure area. Assists in cardiovascular procedures. Performs electrocardiograms. Draws arterial blood samples. Assists in insertion/removal of intra‑aortic balloon during cardiac surgery. Computes flow rates and dosages during surgical procedures. Administers solutions; withdraws and analyzes specimens. Administers physician‑ordered medications and solutions during bypass, monitors IV solutions. Prepares cardioplegia solutions for each case. Maintains a clean laboratory work area. Records and charts patient data. Reviews patient charts to evaluate patients and identify significant conditions. Consults with physicians regarding test results and alerts them to positive or abnormal findings. Calibrates and adjusts equipment in preparation for and during procedures. Checks emergency equipment and loads paper and tape into the computer printer. Selects and sets out appropriate tubing and sterile supplies. Operates the heart/lung machine during surgical procedures. Arranges for repair of equipment and inspects instruments for damage. Checks stock and orders equipment, fluids. Re‑sterilizes equipment. Maintains current licensure and certifications. Maintains proficiency in clinical skills. Assumes other activities and responsibilities as directed. Specific Task‑Related Aspects Procedures: cardiopulmonary resuscitation; electrocardiograph; in‑vivo and in‑vitro procedures; operating room procedures; pulse tracing; specimen preparation. Equipment: computer; heart/lung washing and cleaning. Time Spent Profile Scheduled procedures: 57% – includes patient prep, other prep, performing, assisting, and follow‑up actions. Analyzing information: 25% – reading test results, preparing calculations, and contextualizing data. Collecting and maintaining written information: 12% – logs, lab slips, charts, forms, requisitions, filing, and scheduling. Unscheduled procedures: 3% – emergency patient care services and other unscheduled care. Cleaning: 3% – sterilization, work area, soaking instruments, and decontamination. Pay Grade 16 Basic Qualifications Three (3) years recent experience in cardiac perfusion. Graduate from an accredited school of clinical perfusion. Basic Life Support certification. Clinical Perfusionist Certificate from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of cardiac transducers, monitoring systems, cell savers, auto‑transfusion devices, cardiopulmonary bypass pumps, EKG strip recorders, and other cardiovascular intra‑operative equipment and supplies. Preferred Qualifications N/A Notes This is a variable position; start times may vary within the specific shift. If a twelve‑hour option is chosen, the shift will be 6:30 am–6:00 pm; a backup eight‑hour shift will be 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. #J-18808-Ljbffr Kaiser Permanente
