JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY

The Speech-Language Pathologist provides evaluation, consultation, and therapeutic services to students with communication disorders that impact educational performance and access to educational programs. The Speech-Language Pathologist collaborates with families, educators, related service providers, and community agencies to identify communication needs and develop individualized supports that promote communication, language development, academic success, social interaction, and student independence. All employees of the district are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, utilize feedback to improve professional performance, and commit to championing the needs of our students.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university License / Certification Required Must possess or qualify for a Colorado Special Services Provider License with a Speech-Language Pathologist endorsement. Must maintain all professional licensure and certification requirements established by state and federal regulations. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred. Work Experience Required Experience providing school-based speech-language services. Experience participating in multidisciplinary evaluation and eligibility processes. Experience working with students with a variety of communication disorders and disabilities. Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems preferred. Experience collaborating with educational teams and families preferred. Other Skills and Abilities Required Knowledge of IDEA, ECEA, Section 504, FERPA, and special education service delivery requirements. Knowledge of speech-language assessment tools, communication disorders, and evidence-based intervention strategies. Strong consultation, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Regular attendance is essential.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Special Education Services Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with IDEA, ECEA, and district requirements. Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and communicate progress to families and educational teams. Coordinate and participate in annual reviews, reevaluations, eligibility meetings, manifestation determinations, and transition planning activities as required. Collaborate with related service providers, general education staff, administrators, and families to support student success. Maintain accurate and legally compliant records, documentation, progress reports, and service logs. Support transition planning activities and postsecondary readiness goals for students as required by age and disability-related needs. Provide direct and consultative speech-language services as identified within Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Develop and implement interventions that support speech, language, fluency, voice, social communication, and functional communication skills. Support student communication development across educational environments and activities. Provide services through individual, small-group, classroom-based, and consultative service delivery models as appropriate. Support student independence, self-advocacy, and participation through effective communication strategies. Utilize evidence-based practices to support communication growth and educational access. Conduct speech-language evaluations and develop recommendations regarding eligibility, programming, and services. Assess and support speech sound production, receptive language, expressive language, fluency, voice, pragmatics, and functional communication. Develop and implement communication goals aligned with student educational needs. Support the selection, implementation, and monitoring of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and assistive technology. Collaborate with educational teams regarding communication accommodations and supports. Provide consultation and training related to communication development and communication disorders. Support students in accessing educational programs, extracurricular activities, and school environments through effective communication supports. Evaluation and Assessment Conduct speech-language evaluations, screenings, observations, and assessments to determine student communication needs and eligibility for services. Participate as a multidisciplinary team member in evaluation, reevaluation, and eligibility determination processes. Interpret assessment results and prepare written reports that support educational decision-making and service recommendations. Utilize assessment data to develop individualized communication goals, accommodations, and intervention plans. Assist educational teams in identifying communication barriers that impact student learning and participation. Monitor student progress through ongoing data collection and assessment practices. Consultation and Collaboration Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, paraprofessionals, families, medical professionals, and community agencies to support student success. Provide consultation regarding communication needs, accommodations, intervention strategies, and classroom supports. Assist educational teams in implementing communication supports and accommodations. Provide training and guidance to staff and families regarding communication disorders, intervention strategies, and assistive communication systems. Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and other collaborative planning processes. Support transitions between grade levels, educational settings, programs, and postsecondary environments as appropriate. Communications Establish and maintain professional communication with families, students, colleagues, related service providers, outside agencies, and community partners regarding student progress and educational programming. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, professional learning opportunities, staff meetings, and committees as required. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. Policy, Reports and Law Comply with all applicable federal laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and Title I and Title III program requirements (as applicable), along with other national regulations governing K–12 public education. Comply with all State of Colorado education laws and regulations, including the Colorado READ Act (if applicable), the Exceptional Children's Educational Act (ECEA) (if applicable), and all standards and guidelines established by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). Follow all relevant Board of Education policies and Adams 14 Operational Policies related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, safety, student services, and professional conduct. Adhere to district-level procedures and school-based expectations regarding instruction, family communication, data reporting, and school improvement planning. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designated supervisor. Budget Responsibility Compile and maintain records of instructional materials and supplies.

SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS

May provide consultation, guidance, and support to paraprofessionals, interns, practicum students, and staff assigned to support student services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a usual office or school environment including classrooms, cafeterias, hallways, playgrounds, gyms, and other spaces accessible to students. The Employee may be required to work from a remote location in the event of a district shut-down or other event. Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, compare, analyze, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, and use interpersonal skills. Occasionally required to compile, copy, compute and negotiate.

Compensation for this position is $68,000 to $127,485 per year (2026-2027), based on verified experience and qualifications, and aligned with the Adams 14 salary schedule. This position is scheduled for 188 work days annually. Additional compensation opportunities may be available through stipends or supplemental assignments, depending on job responsibilities.
