Position Title: Plant Operations Specialist

FLSA: Full-time, Non-Exempt (hourly) plus benefits

Salary: $27.20 to 29.05 per hour (depending on experience)

Location: SDBB HQ – 3636 Gateway Center Ave, Ste 100, San Diego, CA 92102

San Diego Blood Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization also operating as Southern California Blood Bank. We serve hospitals in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We are the primary blood provider to Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and the safety net for hospitals in our region. Every year, more than 150,000 units of blood provided by San Diego Blood Bank are transfused into patients of all ages, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds throughout Southern California. These patients are struggling with life-threatening medical conditions including cancer and other blood disorders, severe burns, organ transplants, emergency surgery, trauma, childbirth complications and more.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Summary)

Under the direct supervision of the Manager and Assistant Manager, Plant Operations the Plant Operations Specialist assists in the cleaning, maintenance and repairs of all San Diego Blood Bank (SDBB) facilities, selected vehicles and equipment.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE (Key Responsibilities):

·       Adheres to, exhibits and upholds SDBB's Standards of Excellence.

·       Assists with maintenance and repairs of a variety of SDBB building equipment, fixtures, motor vehicles and certain types of medical equipment.

·       Completes work requests assigned by Plant Operations Management.

·       Assists in updating and maintaining Plant Operations maintenance and repair logs.

·       Keeps management appraise of any maintenance or safety issues that come to their attention.

·       Performs occasional custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and spot cleaning of carpets, walls and upholstery as required.

·       Assists in the inspection of the cleaning of all blood bank facilities by custodians and sub-contractors.

·       Sets up rooms for meetings, exhibits and other blood bank functions.

·       Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AT WORK (Work Environment):

Working Environment:

• Various working conditions; indoor, outdoor, good to inclement weather etc.
• Some traveling required.
• Extensive interactions with employees, vendors and the public.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications)

Education:

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

• 2 or more years in the maintenance field.
• Safely use tools and test equipment.
• Drive various motor vehicles. Must be 21 for insurance purposes.
• Maintain clear, concise, legible reports and accurate information logs/records.
• Perform maintenance tasks in the following areas: electrical, plumbing, building repairs, automotive and refrigeration. Ability to use tools and test equipment associated with those tasks.

Certifications/Licenses:

• Valid California driver's license (Class C) required. Class A or B preferred.

Physical Requirements:

·       Ability to lift 60 lbs. required.

·       Climb ladders up to 22 feet and the ability to work on the roof at heights up to 35 feet above the ground.

·       Must be able to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.
