The salary listed is based on the 2026 Base Salary table and will be augmented by locality pay as authorized for the duty location of the position. Duties Conduct investigations to ensure compliance with the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) and the Chemical Diversion and Trafficking Act (CDTA) involving the procurement, manufacture, distribution, security, and record‑keeping activities of the pharmaceutical and listed chemical regulated industry. Collect and analyze information and evidence; conduct interviews and prepare reports, and present findings and recommendations for regulatory, civil, and/or criminal actions. Research and prepare a variety of written materials and reports that support possible administrative, civil, or criminal proceedings; answer routine and technical correspondence and telephone inquiries; provide expertise and consultation to divisional personnel and provide guidance to other state, local and federal investigators. Develop and maintain working relationships with federal, state and local agencies to promote information and intelligence collection exchanges. Plan, implement, and participate in multi‑jurisdictional special programs impacting the diversion of pharmaceutical controlled substances and listed chemicals from legitimate distribution; evaluate the results of investigations and prepare corresponding statements setting forth alleged violations. Requirements U.S. Citizenship is required. Selectee must be registered with or exempt from Selective Service. A 1‑year probationary period is required. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s licence. Must complete written assessments and a structured interview. Must complete a mandatory 12‑week Basic Diversion Investigator Course located in Quantico, Virginia. Must successfully pass a background investigation and obtain a security clearance. Must complete a medical examination. Must pass a pre‑employment polygraph examination. Must submit to urinalysis for illegal drug screening prior to appointment. Must sign a mobility agreement for relocation to any DEA location. Must pass the E‑Verify employment check. Qualifications To qualify for employment with the DEA, applicants must not violate any of the automatic employment disqualifiers or the drug policy criteria. GS‑07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑05 level, including duties such as gathering data to prepare reports, evaluating priorities, presenting information orally, collaborating with management, and independently accomplishing assignments. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: One year of graduate level education may satisfy the GS‑7 experience requirement. Degrees in accounting, pharmacy, chemistry, pharmacology, nursing, or criminal justice are desired but not required. SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: Completion of a bachelor’s degree with upper‑third class standing, GPA of 3.0 or higher, or membership in a national honor society, may satisfy the GS‑7 criteria. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to meet the GS‑7 requirement if less than one year of experience is available. GS‑09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑07 level, including duties such as preparing written materials and recommendations, collecting/conflicting information, presenting information orally, collaborating, and following procedural steps to complete tasks. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (GS‑09): A master’s degree or two years of graduate education may satisfy the GS‑9 experience requirement. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (GS‑09): Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used if less than one year of experience is available.
