Stone Yard Manager - Materials Sales & Operations

We are seeking a motivated and entrepreneurial Stone Yard Manager to drive sales and create business growth at our West Chester, PA stone yard. HEPCO Quarries of West Chester is the premier supplier of landscape and architectural grade bluestone products in the Delaware Valley. We have a strong customer base of builders, architects, designers, landscapers, and masons that make up the local hardscape market.

Our candidate will be a sales and service professional who understands or is excited to learn the stone industry. They know how to build and maintain strong customer relationships and are driven to move the business forward by developing new accounts and expanding our market.

A successful candidate will be hands-on and customer centered, while running the business like it is their own.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

• Develop and execute strategies to increase sales
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers.
• Make outbound calls/emails/text messages to manage existing customers and prospect for new business opportunities.
• Consistently follow up with prospects and previous quotes
• Understand customer needs and recommend the right bluestone products for their projects.
• Monitor market conditions, competitor pricing, and customer demand.
• Help develop new markets, products, and sales channels.
• Represent the company professionally and respectfully during all customer interactions.
• Take ownership of sales goals and consistently work toward exceeding them.

Yard & Operations Management

• Oversee the daily operation, organization, and safety of the stone yard.
• Monitor and manage inventory levels and communicate new inventory needs to ownership/quarry.
• Unload incoming truck loads, stage and palletize customer orders, load our local delivery truck and customer pickups.
• Ensure products are properly displayed and stored for efficient access and visibility.
• Work closely with our delivery driver to schedule local job site deliveries.
• Maintain an organized and clean stone yard that creates an inviting and safe work environment.
• Ensure forklift and delivery equipment is properly maintained and operated safely.
• Minimize product damage with proper palletizing techniques and careful material handling.

Customer Experience

• Provide exceptional service to every customer who visits or contacts the yard.
• Help customers select materials and understand product options, availability, applications, and limitations.
• Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally.
• Build long-term relationships rather than focusing on individual transactions.
• Ensure customers leave the yard confident in both their purchase and their experience with HEPCO Quarries of West Chester.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who is confident, patient, energetic, self-motivated, and hungry to grow a business.

You must be comfortable picking up the phone and calling on potential new customers, be willing to palletize and load material in the yard, or sit down with ownership to develop sales and business strategies.

We are looking for someone who:

• Is at their best working independently rather than waiting to be told what to do.
• Is comfortable selling and asking for the business.
• Has basic computer skills to create emails, invoices, estimates, and sales reports (primarily operating Quickbooks software)
• Can operate or learn to operate forklifts and other yard equipment.
• Has a strong work ethic and leads by example.
• Is organized and detail-oriented.
• Can balance sales responsibilities with operational demands.
• Has strong existing relationships within the construction, masonry, landscaping, architectural, or building-materials industries are a major plus.
• Is willing to make decisions and take accountability for the results.
• Brings energy, urgency, and a positive attitude to the company.
• Has construction management, landscape supply, building materials, stone, quarry, equipment and inventory experience preferred.

Success in this position will be measured by how effectively the individual grows the business. We are looking for someone who can bring on new customers and expand our existing market. Attention must also be given to continuous customer satisfaction and business retention.

Compensation

We offer a competitive compensation package that is dependent on work experience. It includes base salary, sales commission, and a company match 401K plan.
