CAD Detailer
Structure Exhibits
Job Description
Job Description
Structure Exhibits is a full service exhibit and event company headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, with additional operations in the Chicago area. Since 2003, we have helped brands bring their stories to life through custom trade show exhibits, rental environments, corporate events, and experiential programs.
We handle projects from concept through execution, including design, engineering, fabrication, graphics, AV and technology integration, logistics, installation, dismantle, and on site support.
We are looking for an Entry to Mid Level CAD Detailer to join our production team and help translate creative exhibit designs into accurate, buildable construction documents and CNC ready production files.
Position Summary
The CAD Detailer is responsible for taking approved exhibit designs and developing the detailed drawings, specifications, CNC ready parts, and production documentation required to successfully fabricate and install custom trade show exhibits.
This position works closely with our Design, Estimating, Project Management, CNC, and Production teams to ensure that what we design can be efficiently built, machined, assembled, transported, and installed.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, dimensions, tolerances, CNC fabrication, and part development and enjoys figuring out how things actually go together.
Experience within the trade show, exhibit, millwork, architectural fabrication, retail fixture, museum, scenic, or custom fabrication industries is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
CAD Detailing & Engineering
• Develop detailed CAD drawings from approved exhibit designs and renderings
• Create accurate construction drawings for custom exhibit fabrication
• Produce floor plans, elevations, sections, details, and assembly drawings
• Detail custom millwork, cabinetry, counters, walls, platforms, kiosks, product displays, and architectural elements
• Develop drawings for wood, metal, laminate, acrylic, graphics, lighting, AV, and other integrated components
• Determine appropriate construction methods, materials, dimensions, tolerances, and attachment points
• Incorporate modular and rental exhibit systems into custom environments when required
• Detail exhibit components with consideration for shipping, crating, repeated assembly, and field installation
• Develop connection details and hardware specifications for components that must be assembled and dismantled repeatedly
• Coordinate electrical, lighting, monitor, LED, AV, and technology locations within construction drawings
• Create graphic dimensions and production references for graphic elements
• Review designs for constructability and identify potential fabrication or installation issues before production begins
• Revise drawings based on feedback from Design, Project Management, Estimating, and Production
• Work directly with fabricators and production personnel to resolve questions during the build process
• Maintain accurate drawing revisions and project documentation
• Assist with material takeoffs and fabrication information when required
• Participate in project reviews and pre production meetings
• Help ensure finished exhibits match approved designs and client expectations
CNC & Part Programming
• Develop CNC ready part drawings and production files from approved construction drawings
• Create and prepare individual part files for CNC routing and fabrication
• Program CNC toolpaths, cut paths, drilling locations, pockets, dados, rabbets, and other machining operations as required
• Break detailed assemblies into individual manufacturable components and parts
• Nest parts and sheet materials to maximize material utilization and minimize waste
• Account for tooling, material thickness, tolerances, clearances, and fabrication requirements when preparing CNC files
• Coordinate CNC programming with custom millwork, cabinetry, wall systems, counters, platforms, exhibit components, and specialty fabricated elements
• Review CNC files and part drawings for accuracy before releasing them to production
• Create clear part identification, labeling, and assembly references to support fabrication and installation
• Work directly with CNC operators and fabricators to troubleshoot machining, fit, and assembly issues
• Make adjustments to drawings and CNC files based on actual production conditions and material requirements
• Help develop repeatable CNC standards, part libraries, construction methods, and fabrication efficiencies
What We Are Looking For
• Approximately 1 to 5 years of professional CAD detailing, drafting, CNC programming, or related experience
• Experience with CAD software used for architectural, fabrication, millwork, exhibit, or production detailing
• Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, renderings, floor plans, and construction documents
• Understanding of woodworking, millwork, cabinetry, metal fabrication, and general construction techniques
• Strong dimensional and spatial reasoning
• Understanding of materials, hardware, fasteners, and fabrication methods
• Ability to think beyond the drawing and understand how a component will actually be built
• Experience preparing drawings and files for CNC fabrication is preferred
• Understanding of CNC routing, tooling, toolpaths, nesting, and sheet optimization
• Ability to break detailed assemblies into individual manufacturable parts
• Understanding of CNC based cabinet and millwork construction methods
• Familiarity with CNC programming or CAM software is highly desirable
• Experience working with plywood, MDF, laminates, plastics, aluminum composites, and other common exhibit fabrication materials
• Ability to consider CNC fabrication requirements during the detailing process rather than treating CNC programming as a separate production step
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple projects and changing deadlines
• Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate directly with designers, project managers, estimators, CNC operators, and fabricators
• Ability to receive feedback and quickly incorporate revisions
• Comfortable working in a fast paced, deadline driven production environment
Trade Show Experience Is a Plus
Experience within the trade show and exhibit industry is highly desirable because exhibit construction presents challenges that are different from traditional architectural construction.
Successful candidates will understand, or be interested in learning, how to design and detail components that must be:
• Fabricated efficiently
• CNC machined efficiently
• Shipped and crated safely
• Installed within tight show schedules
• Assembled and dismantled repeatedly
• Designed around venue and show regulations
• Reconfigured for different exhibit environments
• Durable enough for multiple years of use
Experience with custom exhibits, scenic fabrication, retail environments, museums, architectural millwork, commercial interiors, cabinetry, or experiential environments can translate well into this position.
What Success Looks Like
A successful CAD Detailer at Structure does more than create drawings.
You will learn to look at a design and immediately begin thinking about how it gets built, how the parts are produced, how it connects, how it ships, how it installs, and how we can make it better.
Your drawings and CNC files should give our production team the information they need to confidently fabricate and assemble the project without having to guess what the designer intended.
As you develop in the position, we expect you to become an important connection between creative design and physical production, helping Structure find smarter ways to engineer, machine, fabricate, and build our exhibits.
Our Core Values
Our core values define how we work with our clients and with each other.
Integrity
Do the right thing, take ownership, and follow through on commitments.
FAIR
Treat our clients, vendors, partners, and teammates fairly and respectfully.
Innovative
Look for smarter solutions, better processes, and new ways to create exceptional experiences.
Tenacious
Trade shows move fast and challenges happen. We stay focused, solve problems, and find a way to get the job done.
Reliable
Our clients and teammates need to know they can count on us. We deliver what we promise.
Rock the Brand
Everything we build represents our client's brand and ours. We bring the creativity, craftsmanship, energy, and attention to detail necessary to make both stand out.
Why Structure Exhibits
At Structure, you will work on projects that move quickly from an idea on a screen to a fully fabricated environment on a major trade show floor.
You will have the opportunity to work directly with experienced designers, project managers, estimators, CNC operators, fabricators, and installers while developing a deeper understanding of custom exhibit engineering and fabrication.
For someone who enjoys CAD but also wants to understand how things are actually built , this position provides an opportunity to develop beyond traditional CAD detailing into advanced exhibit engineering, CNC programming, fabrication planning, and production development.
