Assists individuals, as necessary, in activities of daily living (feeding, bathing, changing assistance). Completes training with individuals towards achieving Individual Support Plan (ISP) outcomes and strategies. Documents progress of all ISP outcomes in Therap each shift for all assigned individuals. Completes and demonstrates proficiency in all required training. Attends conferences, seminars and training relevant to the position. Administers and records administration of medication in accordance with DDS guidelines. Accompanies individuals to and from appointments and activities. Builds a support network between individuals and community members, helping individuals access resources and opportunities in their community, including social, recreational, and religious activities; coaches participation, provides transportation to events, and helps community members recognize the individual’s gifts. Accurately completes all in-house documentation in a timely fashion. Participates in Circle(s) of Support for personal futures planning. Becomes familiar with and respects individuals' rights, interests, goals, dreams, capacities, lifestyle, needs, gifts, and social networks by spending time with them and consulting with other staff. Completes all other duties as assigned by the Group Home Manager, Assistant Supervisor and Coordinator of Residential Services. Performs duties necessary to meet state approved objectives, federal Medicaid guidelines, Department of Human Services’ guidelines and OTC Services’ policies and procedures. Cooperates with OTC, the Department of Human Services, the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), and other licensing or state agencies or local municipalities in inspections and investigations, upon request. Works full-time direct support with multiple shifts available throughout Burlington County. Other duties as assigned. Initiative and Skills Required DSPs must be able to train individuals with disabilities in public environments, exercise patience, work with a flexible schedule and respond to crisis situations. DSPs must have empathy, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well in a team; able to handle physical aspects of the job (bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, walking). The position requires good judgment and professional communication; clear language, written or oral, is essential in daily activities; ingenuity and creativity must be used to determine training methods and supports. DSPs must identify possibilities rather than limitations and view a person’s gifts with a passion for improving quality of life. DSPs work well individually and as part of a team and must be able to assist individuals physically and emotionally. Driver’s License valid in the state of NJ with a driving record acceptable to OTC Services and MVC Regulations. Must have been driving for at least 3 years and hold a full license (not provisional or probationary). Must be 21 years of age. Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to bend, lift and assist in physical transfer of individuals needing assistance. Ability to drive large vehicles including non-ambulatory lift vehicles.
