Police Dispatcher

Police Dispatcher – VCU Police Department (Virtual University of Virginia). Responsibilities Provide timely, accurate, competent, and courteous communications service to the University and Hospital community in need of emergency assistance and other services. Also provide communications services to Campus Police and other governmental units to assist agencies in carrying out their responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications Designated to work when Virginia Commonwealth University is authorized to be closed due to inclement weather or other emergency closings. High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience. Possession of DCJS Basic Dispatch Certification and VCU Full Access Certification or ability to complete within 12 months of hire. Valid DMV operator license. No felony convictions or crimes of moral turpitude. Ability to perform emergency dispatch support work with accuracy, speed, and minimal supervision; read and interpret agency policies, procedures, and regulations; communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse populations; work in a team environment with all levels of local, state, federal, university, and private sector. Ability to work under stressful conditions; read maps and interpret information; route multiple incoming emergency calls; make decisions to coordinate multiple functions from multiple agencies. Analyze data to make decisions and maintain situational awareness across the Commonwealth. Operate complex technological systems such as the Common Operating Picture and Crisis Management System. Work in a 24‑hour operation, 7‑day rotating schedule; may be assigned mandatory overtime up to 12 hours. Function physically and mentally under extreme stress and during emergency situations. Demonstrated experience fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Not specified.
