TITLE: Alliance for Learning and Leading Job Description School Social Worker Intern

FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt

REPORTS TO: Assigned CCS Task Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS: Enrolled in current Masters Program at an ALL(Alliance for Learning and Leading) Grant Participating University

JOB GOAL: The School Social Work intern, under supervision, provides services to support student's social and emotional well-being and collaborates with the school counselor, behavioral health therapist, teachers, and other relevant individuals to support students. The school social work intern will serve students whose social-emotional difficulties interfere with his/her capacity to function adequately as a student. The social work intern professionally assesses the problem and through consultation, individual or group action develops a plan to assist the student and/or his/her family. The plan may involve both the school and/or community resources. This professional relationship is dependent upon its confidential nature and may consist of initial assessment interviews or may be an ongoing program throughout the year or the student's school career.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assessment of Student Needs

• Consult with the school site supervisor on crisis and child abuse reporting when necessary.
• Under the direction of the Site Supervisor: complete initial assessments on newly referred students, complete social health histories on students, and identify a referral network with outside agencies for both students and parents.

Program Focus, Management & Planning

• Collaborate with the school site supervisor on the learning plan and goals for the internship.
• School day schedules vary and school social workers often work beyond the student schedule. Your site placement will begin in August and conclude in June (the academic calendar for that school year).
• Continually improve social work skills by seeking constructive feedback and professional development opportunities.
• Exhibit positive rapport with students and school personnel.
• Establishes a working relationship with parents and members of the school community.
• Work on-site at least 20 hours per week for the duration of the academic year.
• Participation in set County Wide Professional Development days throughout the year.
• The paid internship is $17.00 an hour, which is paid in monthly increments.

Direct Service

• Implements the philosophy and objectives of the school's social work program.
• Maintains case records for the purpose of documenting activities and complying with mandated requirements.
• Assists in tracking and following up on all social work referrals.
• Assists in assessing crisis situations, helping others on the team identify potential solutions, identifying resources that may be helpful in problem resolution, and developing plans for the resolution of the crisis.
• If needed, under the direction of the site administrator, attend/participate in Student Services Team (SST), 504, and Individual Education Plan (IEP)meetings.
• Occasionally presents at teacher meetings.

Advocacy

• Serves as an advocate for student's rights within the school.
• Remains available for crisis intervention social work as the need arises.

Coordination/Liaison

• Provides school-based social work interventions, including but not limited to individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and collaborations with school staff and administrative team.
• Assist in the coordination of social work/counseling/therapeutic services and student referrals between the program and other agencies providing social and educational services in both the school and the local community.

Professional Practice and Development

• Attend staff meetings to develop an understanding of programs and processes and to contribute to future programming.
• Attend monthly school work department-level meetings with the School Work Coordinator to collaborate, share, and learn about current educational counseling practices.
• Attend County-wide Professional Development days attended by all student services staff.
• Attend virtual office hours held by Student Services district personnel.
• Attend training regarding 504s, SST, CSSR-S, Child abuse, and other areas to increase knowledge of resources for students and families.
• Attend training that specializes in at-risk populations (foster youth, adopted, homeless, or McKinney-Vento) to help promote resources and services.
• Performs other related duties as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders. Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

Must possess a valid driver's license.
