Field Service - Electrical Manufacturing – Electrical Systems | 40% Travel

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Controls Technician with strong mechanical troubleshooting abilities to support the installation, maintenance, repair, and optimization of industrial equipment and automated systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on technician with experience in electrical systems , control panels , PLC troubleshooting , mechanical systems , and field service support .

The position requires approximately 40% travel to customer sites, facilities, or project locations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, diagnosing equipment issues, supporting system startups, and working with both electrical and mechanical components in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical troubleshooting , diagnostics, repair, and maintenance on industrial equipment, automated machinery, and control systems.
• Support PLC troubleshooting , input/output checks, sensor diagnostics, and controls-related equipment issues.
• Inspect, test, and repair control panels , wiring, relays, switches, motors, drives, sensors, and related electrical components.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems , including bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, valves, and pneumatic or hydraulic components.
• Assist with equipment installation, startup, commissioning, calibration, and system testing.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics , wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on electrical, mechanical, and automated equipment.
• Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend repairs, adjustments, or process improvements.
• Travel to customer sites or field locations approximately 40% of the time to provide technical support, repairs, installations, and troubleshooting.
• Communicate professionally with customers, operators, engineers, maintenance teams, and internal support staff.
• Document service work, repairs, parts used, equipment condition, and recommended follow-up actions.
• Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and workplace standards while working on energized or mechanical equipment.

Qualifications

• Experience as an Electrical Technician , Controls Technician , Field Service Technician , Maintenance Technician , or similar industrial technical role.
• Strong working knowledge of electrical controls , industrial wiring, control panels, sensors, motors, and automated equipment.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical repair , equipment maintenance, and industrial machinery troubleshooting.
• Ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and diagnose control system issues.
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics , wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation.
• Experience with AC/DC electrical systems , motor controls, variable frequency drives, relays, switches, and instrumentation is preferred.
• Familiarity with pneumatics , hydraulics , conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and related mechanical components.
• Comfortable traveling approximately 40% for field service, installation, repair, or customer support work.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, meters, diagnostic equipment, and other maintenance tools safely and effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions in the field.
• Good communication skills and a professional approach when working with customers and team members.
• High school diploma or GED required; technical school, electrical training, controls training, or related certification preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet travel requirements.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with industrial automation , manufacturing equipment, packaging equipment, material handling systems, or production machinery.
• Familiarity with PLC systems , HMI interfaces, VFDs, sensors, encoders, and industrial networks.
• Prior field service or customer-facing technical support experience.
• Experience performing equipment startups, system installations, commissioning, and preventive maintenance.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards, lockout/tagout , and industrial maintenance safety practices.

Work Environment

This position involves work in industrial, manufacturing, production, and field service environments. The role may require standing, bending, lifting, climbing, working around machinery, and using tools and diagnostic equipment. Travel is expected approximately 40% of the time, depending on project and customer needs.
