The Senior Accounting Associate is responsible for managing, preparing, and reviewing accounting engagements for clients. Seniors must exhibit strong bookkeeping skills and proficiency in O&G accounting systems. Seniors are responsible for planning and executing engagements and special assignments, supervising, and training associates, reviewing the work of associates, and communicating with clients. Position Details: Classification: Full-time; ExemptDepartment: CAAS - Energy Accounting & Consulting Location: Dallas, Plano, or Fort WorthOffice Expectations: On-Site; M-F What You Will Do Assume full responsibility for planning and executing client engagements and assignments using established firm policies and procedures, including supervising and training associates, reviewing the work of associates, and communication with clientsReview and prepare daily receipts, monthly revenue intake sheets, spreadsheets files and intercompany reportsReview and participate in monthly, quarterly, and yearly accounting cycles and prepare financial statementsMonitor accounts payable and accounts receivableMonitor and ensure that all monthly transactions are accurately recordedCoordinate JIB, revenue, and other monthly accounting processes when applicableParticipate in firm committees, departmental matters, learning experiences, etc. that increase your commitment and capability within the firmMaintain effective contact with client personnel at the appropriate levels; interact with clients in a professional and competent manner; build trust-based relationships with clientsProactively work with client’s management to gather necessary information and complete engagement procedures in a timely mannerJoin and participate in community or professional events and committees to develop relationships and networks in the communitySupport the training of staff members; delegate assignments and tasks clearly and provide needed guidance and informationAssist in developing training materials and serve as an instructor in technical and professional development programsTeach, coach and integrate staff on the firm’s engagement approach and processPrepare staff evaluation reportsParticipate in technical and professional training throughout the yearParticipate in the firm’s annual performance management and goal setting processWhat You Need to Get Here3-5 years of experience in Energy accounting and analysis, demonstrating a progression in complexity, and scope.Oil & Gas Accounting Knowledge specifically Upstream/E&P experience requiredBA or Master’s in accounting or financial managementCPA or CPA eligibility preferredProficiency in the use of technology and accounting programsFamiliar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) specifically as they relate to Oil & Gas AccountingFamiliarity with ARO, Depletion, Impairment, and other industry-specific calculationsProficiency in Microsoft Office ExcelProficiency in O&G Accounting Software preferred (OGsql, Wolfepak, Quorum On-Demand Accounting)A positive attitude, professional appearance, and demeanorAbility to research and apply theory and experience to individual circumstancesStrong organizational and time management skills; ability to plan and execute multiple engagements and projects simultaneouslyExcellent analytical skills and problem-solving ability; exhibits creativity by expressing new ideas and thinking outside the box; solution-mindedExcellent communication skills, both orally and in writing; actively listens and clearly communicates ideas and informationStrong relationship-building capabilities; ability to work respectfully and productively with diverse individuals in a variety of rolesWhy Whitley PennOur total rewards are incredibly competitive.
