Job Title Billing/Coding Specialist Department My Kidney Center Reports To Administrator/Medical Director FLSA Status Non-Exempt Employment Status Full-time or part-time Summary of Duties The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for managing patient account payments, including collecting, posting, and submitting claims to insurance companies. This role also involves following up on claims and resolving any billing issues. Essential Functions Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance companies, either electronically or by paper. Conduct insurance verification for prior authorizations and update insurance information. Answer questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies. Identify and resolve patient billing complaints. Prepare, review, and send patient statements. Evaluate patients' financial status and establish budget payment plans. Follow up on delinquent accounts and report their status. Prepare information for the collection agency. Perform various collection actions, including contacting patients by phone and correcting and resubmitting claims to third-party payers. Process payments from insurance companies and prepare daily deposits. Participate in educational activities and attend monthly staff meetings. Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations. Education High School Diploma or GED and CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certification. Billing/coding experience is required. Compensation Compensation will be determined based on experience. Skills/Experience Knowledge of medical billing and collection practices. Proficiency in computer programs. Understanding of business office procedures. Basic knowledge of medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices. Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment. Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system. Skill in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public. Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills. Environmental/Working Conditions Normal office environment. Occasional overtime may be required, and hours may be adjusted as business needs dictate. Physical Demands This role requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Manual dexterity is needed for using a calculator and computer keyboard. The employee must regularly talk or hear, frequently use hands or fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls, and occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
