About the job you’re considering

We are seeking a detail-oriented Manual QA Engineer with strong experience testing retail Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and validating U.S. sales tax calculations across multiple jurisdictions. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of tax-related business rules, transaction processing, and end-to-end retail workflows, including sales, returns, refunds, promotions, and payment processing. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of retail operations, tax compliance requirements, and manual testing best practices in a fast-paced Agile environment.

Your role

• Design, execute, and maintain comprehensive manual test cases and test scenarios for POS tax calculation and transaction processing functionality.
• Validate U.S. sales tax calculations across state, county, city, district, and special tax jurisdictions to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Test tax-related business scenarios involving merchandise, food and beverage items, gift cards, discounts, promotions, loyalty rewards, and digital transactions.
• Verify tax behavior and calculations for sales, refunds, exchanges, returns, voids, reversals, and post-void transactions.
• Perform end-to-end testing across POS, payment processing, back-office systems, tax engines, and reporting platforms.
• Investigate, document, and track defects, tax discrepancies, and edge-case scenarios using Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, and Tax Compliance teams to support requirements validation, defect resolution, regression testing, and release readiness.

Your skills and experience

• 4+ years of hands-on Manual QA experience with strong expertise in retail POS application testing.
• Proven experience validating U.S. sales tax calculations, tax compliance requirements, and jurisdiction-specific tax rules.
• Strong understanding of tax exemptions, tax holidays, tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive pricing models, and tax rounding methodologies.
• Experience testing retail transaction workflows including sales, returns, exchanges, refunds, voids, promotions, discounts, and gift card processing.
• Familiarity with third-party tax engines such as Vertex, Avalara, or similar tax calculation solutions.
• Working knowledge of payment processing and tender types, including credit cards, mobile wallets, stored value cards, and gift cards.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with proficiency in defect management tools; knowledge of SQL, API testing, and Postman is highly preferred.

The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is $68,911 - $161,544.

Capgemini provides compensation range information in accordance with applicable national, state, provincial, and local pay transparency laws. The base compensation range listed for this position reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation Capgemini, in good faith, believes it may pay for the role at the time of this posting. This range may be subject to change as permitted by law.

The actual compensation offered to any candidate may fall outside of the posted range and will be determined based on multiple factors legally permitted in the applicable jurisdiction.

It is not typical for candidates to be hired at or near the top of the posted compensation range.

In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional compensation such as variable incentives, bonuses, or commissions, depending on the position and applicable laws.
