Job Description and Duties

PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – DIABLO RANGE DISTRICT / BENICIA STATE RECREATION AREA

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. The Seasonal Park Aide reporting location for this position will be at the Benicia State Recreation Area, but occasionally may cover shifts at the Benicia Capitol SHP. This position will work under the supervision of the Supervising Ranger or field Rangers.

The Park Aide is responsible for the collection and accounting of park fees, selling park passes, preparing bank deposits, registering enroute campers, compiling daily attendance figures, answering questions, and providing information on park rules and regulations. Perform opening and closing procedures for shift location and provide excellent customer service to all visitors. A great entry-level position in State Parks, and opportunity to learn about Benicia State Recreation Area and surrounding recreational opportunities. Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and occasionally special events. Hours and days are flexible but please note this position requires having the ability to between the hours of 8 AM and up to two hours after sunset.

This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

Working Conditions

Frequent periods of sitting, standing, and lifting objects less than 20 lbs.

May have periodic exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, extreme heat/cold, and/or loud noises.

May work in remote locations.

Often working independently while interacting with the public.

Extreme heat and cold weather are conditions of working in semi-outdoor conditions
